I'll say one thing in California's defense. In 1969 I was helping landscape an apartment building in Pasadena in the middle of summer on a smog alert day. I was young and healthy and my lung hurt. It was all I could do to dig a few shovel fulls then rest while I caught my breath. Smog was bad. It felt like an elephant was standing on my chest and injecting pesticide down my throat.
At least today you can breath fairly well in LA.
That being said, I think the manner in which they have implemented this CARB thing smacks of incompetence and having a deaf ear to the impact on the industry. Waffling at the 11th hour, leaving O/O's and small fleets up in the air as 12/31/13 was approaching, was unacceptable. -
So, it's Sunday night and the lots are usually full... are they?

i get to have my first ontario experience tomorow, prolly be shutting down there..(in sacramento tonight)
are they both pay park?.. -
I wondering how you can 'walk' through a truck stop a month ago and estimate how many of 'those' trucks would not be there a month later...
without concluding that 99% would not be there a month later.
And that 1% would be regulars that manage to get there every day.Lucar Thanks this. -
FWIW freight has been extremely slow, at least getting out of the LA area. I was lucky to get out on Tuesday on an east coast run. I stopped in at the T/A (West) midday on Monday and about 1/4 of the parking spots were open, but that could just have been the norm.
Yes, they are both $20 per night to park, unless you purchase 50 gallons (really expensive fuel) or spend at least $20 in the store. -
I always enjoyed staying at those TAs in beautiful Ontario California. Felt like I was on vacation each time.

That's the thing. CARB had a time and place. Now it's more bureaucracy than sound legislation.wore out Thanks this.

It was always fun watching the lot lizards jumping out of trucks and dodging security. Key up Benny Hill Music.

No trucks older than 2008 allowed any longer. I simply looked at how many appeared to be 2008 or newer. I am a student of trucks and no genius but I can usually tell one truck from another. It was an educated guess and by no means a scientific analysis.
I'll be delivering an OD load to Banning in about 10 days and see for myself what's up. I just hope I get off an exit before the scales instead of an exit after...
