I've been working for Farner Bocken in Omaha for about 1.5 years now. For the first 6 months I was a line haul driver and ever since then I've been a route driver. The route position is pretty exhausting and doesn't pay too well and the line haul or OTR is overnight only. This is my first driving job and now I think its time for a new one but my 2 DUI's are making it tricky. The last one was in 2007 so its outside the 5 year range that some companies want but it seems all the best companies don't want any at all. I'm trying to go over the road and be home on weekends. I don't know if my 6 months of line haul is considered OTR because I was home everyday and went to the same places but I was paid by mile and averaged 435 miles in 3 states. Does anyone know of any good OTR companies (or local) that I qualify for and are good to their drivers?

Probably should have learned a lesson after the first DUI.

Dui's and driving careers don't mix very well.

    He said good.

    I kid, I kid!

Seriously though, be up front about your history. You don't want to leave your current job and get all the way to orientation just to wash out and have to find a way back home.

Were those DUI's in a commercial vehicle?

I dont Condone Drinking and Driving.......But When does a man get to enjoy a beer these days?

I drink When Im working on my Truck at my Yard.....I'll even take it for a test drive with a Beer in my hand...No Big Deal, Its about responsibility.

Now....If you had an alcohol problem(alcoholic) and kept getting pulled over for Weaving-etc...Then Maybe you might want to stop drinking all together..

As for your CDL finding a job.....Its been over 5 years..You should be Good to go!

Wow now that's great example for a 24 year veteran to set....You do Condone drinking and driving...by your admittance...you're doing it....having anything at all ..read my lips...ANYTHING TO DRINK...you are DRINKING and DRIVING...there isn't any room for any grey area. in this ...you either don't drink and drive or you do.....PERIOD. To the OP , you need to stay where you're at , at least for now...you may in a few more "sober years' find a decent job...but most of the really , really good places probably won't ever open their door to you. 1 DUI is a really bad Choice...but getting 2 , shows that you never learned from getting the 1st , or you just don't care....or both....

It will be very difficult to get in with any large trucking company, and they typically wouldn't classify your experience as OTR anyway. Your best bet is to find a small outfit near you. Just an FYI, unless the HR climate changes, you'll always find issues with CDL employment with 2 DUI's even if they are 20 years old. Find a good small outfit and start pestering them to give you a job.
