Once i get my cdl permit, what trucking comapines is a good fit for me to appy to?

Are you going to get your CDL from a school or go to a company that will train you? If you go with the latter then you will need to stay and pay them back for about a year! I wish you luck.

 

What if you get your cdl on your own? What are your options there?

 

Slow done Stud, learn what you are doing, learn how to run an effecienttruck before you bit off more then you can chew, O/O is about 3-8 years down the road, a Lease Op is at least 2 years down the road, and if it looks to good to be true IT! IS!

 

What company to work for? This question comes up too much. You are a newbie. You do not know how to drive a truck. You might get a license but that doesn't mean anything. I am not trying to insult you, it is just that we have all been where you are and we know you don't know anything yet.

A company is just a piece of paper. You will find that there are lots of ######### in any company. For all we know, you maybe one of them. Only time will tell. You will have to learn how to deal with people rapidly. In this politically correct world you have to know what you can say and what you can't say. You have to learn who is your boss and who works for you. You have to learn how to get people to do whatever it is that will get the job done best. As such you are your own boss in trucking.

All companies are great as long as there are no problems. Most of them will screw you if there is something that goes wrong. People cover their #####. When you read the stories about what companies to stay away from you will find that someone had a problem with something at the company. They left unhappy. We get to hear on side of the story only.

CR England for example. From what I hear no one in their right mind would work for that outfit. But someone does. There are people driving their trucks. Not everyone hates them.

I have worked for 8 companies driving trucks. Two companies that hauled their own freight and 6 that hauled for the general public. Two large companies, 2 medium and 2 small. The job is what you make of it.

Put your time in with the first company that will put you behind a wheel. You will knock a sign down during a right hand turn. Your first company will most likely fire you or you will quit because they are jerks. We have all be there and have the t shirt or ball cap to prove it. Trucking isn't about the company, it is about you being able to overcome.

Asking which company to work for is like asking a solider if they would prefer World War 1 or World War 2. Just keep your head down and survive your first year.

Ozark Motor Lines (Eastern half of USA, no NYC, no Canada, 100% no-touch freight)

 

Talk to a CR England recruiter. You will get a fantastic sunshine injection in the arse, and a fancy truck with the family crest on the side. Talk about royalty! You will be the envy of every rookie driver. And in 6 months, you could be a certified lease operator. You will be specially trained in the business of leasing a truck. You will be like an owner operator, but you will have the England family backing you, not out on your own like those pitiful owner operators. Certified.

And then to make even more money, you can be a certified trainer, and teach other rookies the ropes as you learn them. What does M O N E Y spell? You got it.

Seriously, on the bottom, they're about all the same...just a different name on the door. Pay about the same and the dispatchers all have the same Playbook. Probably written by JJ Keller even.
