Just like mickey melon said...this atlas has the Rand McNally beat hands down...Better detail especially on the larger city maps....best by far!

Yeah no no way in heck I'm going to use a passenger vehicle GPS. I'm not wanting to get stuck on some route that isn't made for truckers.

I wonder what people did before the GPS... *FACEPALM*

I run the lower 48 and it's rare that i go to the same place twice in 6 months and when i leave from LA,CA on a run to Southington,CT i know every turn and fuel stop before i even start my trip. How do i do this without a ''dedicated cushy route'' you ask? I have this magical device called a phone that i use to call my customers with and get the best truck route into their facility in CT before i leave LA.

I wouldn't buy one just yet. Odds are your trainer will buy you one.

Isn't that the same thing that ramblingman said?

He didn’t say to not use a GPS, just that it should only be used as an aid. Its good advice to tell someone to use a GPS only as an aid and you seemed to have said the same thing when you said you used it as a supplement. I think ramblingman was pointing out the importance in proper pretrip, not that you need to have every address, highway, exit and intersection committed committed to memory.

You should use every asset you can find for doing a proper pretrip, an atlas, MapQuest, Google Earth, Microsoft Streets and Trips, a GPS, and any other asset you have so that you know where you are going before ever leaving.

Thanks for hopefully making that clear Ubu. I ask a simple question and some people take things totally different. There's just some things that are good to have with you over the road. Id rather know what I'm getting while doing the pre trip then get moving and be clueless.

The best advice for using a tool is knowing it's limitations and how to use it properly.

I use my motorcycle GPS and it works just fine for me. But of course I was driving before there was such a thing and know how to read my RM Trucker's Atlas to see where trucks should and should not go. See if the GPS says to turn into a lake or a wall, I'm smart enough to not listen to it. ;)
