Better ask England if you still have to keep up on the school payments while waiting.Dont know if the contract kicks in once you start driving solo or in training. Is your trainer in the lease program? How long has he been with England?

He's been with them about 4 years. Used to be an IC with an old peterbilt, then went company after England started only giving dedicated runs to company drivers.
The school loan has no payments while you're employed, even if you're not on a truck. After 9 months employment, the company pays the loan, through a 3rd party lender, off in full. If you quit before then, the loan is put back in your name. My trainer thinks the 9 months starts the day you finish your over the road training regardless of if you're in a truck or not, but is not sure. I'll ask an office person when we get back to the terminal to be sure. -
If you don't mind can we get some back-story on how you ended up at CRE such as whats your work-history especially recent? Based upon the posts in this forum CRE is manifestly one of the lesser preferred options for new drivers. Why did you get into trucking ... recent job loss or just a career change (like me)? Did you have credit problems that forced you to go this training route? Why not consider a local professional truck driving school that you finance yourself? I'm not saying you made a bad choice or for that matter had any other choice ... as with all economic decisions you made the right choice for you considering all possible variables known to you at the time, but I'm just trying to understand what set of circumstances lead you to this situation. Again, not looking to offend or anything but was just fascinated by your first post and would be intrigued to know more about the journey that lead you to CRE.

My decision to get started in trucking was from a desire for a career change and travel. I'd had a decent job at an answering service at the time, but was getting concerned about my job's security. Eventually my concerns panned out ( possibly a self fulfilling prophecy), so I went ahead on the trucking plan.
My credit is pretty bad due to some student loan issues, and between that and rent I was barely scraping by, so I had/ have very little in savings. I had to go with a company school in return for a contract instead of paying my own way.
I saw CR England's negative reviews, but that didn't concern me overmuch. I've worked at and enjoyed other jobs that had terrible reviews, which turned out to just be an issue of work ethic. Not that CRE school was perfect, but the people in my class I saw complaining the most about school were also the people staying up late at night not doing homework, and sitting in the back of trucks with the heater on instead of watching and learning from other people doing maneuvers.
To sum that up, I guess my decision was a combination of financial necessity and bullheadedness.

Ashkanenald,
Thank you for your willingness to share your experience. I too have read a ton of negative reviews and because of that, I was afraid, but I took a chance and will be starting school in Richmond, Indiana also. Although I will be keeping the negative reviews I have read in the back of my mind, I must say that your experience is encouraging. I plan to stay optimistic, keep a good attitude and work my behind off. Failing is never an option for me! Thanks to all for sharing their experiences; and I will be sure to share mine, once I'm done with my training. Wish me luck everyone please...lol. Thank you all!!

Are they still housing the trainees in motels full of bed bugs?
-
Good luck!!!
You'll need it. -
LOL....oh my goodness! Well by the time I went to bed last night, everything I'd read started getting to me big time, so I started looking for other options.
-
Thank you. Having second thoughts though.

Good luck! It's not a cakewalk, but if you keep that "Failure is not an option" mentality you should kick ###.
