    Hey Charm City,

I'm in Baltimore and have been looking the past few months. Superior Carriors looks like a good company, spoke with Ken over there a year ago and he seemed like a real good guy. Mawson & mawson is also hiring on drivers, and their recruiter Jim Parker was great to talk to also. If you want to go food grade tanker HR Ewell is looking to put drivers on, as well as food liner. All the LTL carriers in Baltimore are hiring, ABF, Estes, FedEx freight, Ups freight, New Penn, etc. if you want pm me and share any info on any of the local companies I've checked out in the past couple months. Cowan is always putting drivers on also if you want to stay in van freight, but I've heard mixed things about them. Good luck man.

Unless you are including weeks with breakdowns or hometime, I can almost gaurantee a large portion of the blame lies with you. And while things in general may be better at a new carrier, if you don't address whatever is causing these 1000-mile weeks, you probably won't find success anywhere. I mean you've been at it for 2 years with at least 2 companies & you can't afford a single vacation??

Here are some things that tend to cause some drivers to get below average miles:

*frequent hometime (you've already said this isn't the case with you)
    *Poor trip planning
    *Wasting your 11/14/70
    *being unreliable/late
*wanting to work less than 8-9 hours/day
*not effectively communicating (whether impropper use of macros or not clearly conveying needs to dispatch)
*not wanting to do anything outside the role of "driver" (eg waiting 2 hours for a TA to change a trailer taillight)
*Beating up on equipment (boonie bouncing through cratered parking lots, racing the engine up hills and from stop lights, etc)

    And many more...

It is possible that you truly are a valuable driver and your current company is just awful, but if you line up 100 guys who are getting 1000 mile weeks at mega carriers -- 99 of them will have themselves to blame.

I agree with you on that one as most drivers do have themselves to blame, but I know it's not me. I'm -always-on time, I'm very rarely in the shop (I was in the shop once in the year I've been with them after driving through the sub-zero temps we had.), and I manage my time very well. The biggest reason I sit is because of miscommunication between my company and the customer. They tell me the load delivers at 1800 on Friday. I get there way ahead of time and check in to find out the load doesn't deliver until 0800 on Monday. I ask if there's a chance they can squeeze me in and they say "Nope. Sorry.". I call my company to see if they have any drivers in the area that are in need of a 34 that I can swap with to keep rolling. "Nope. Sorry." and so I sit. And I sit.... and I sit. I haven't run my 70 down in over a month and it's not because they don't like me. My company president made a comment about how reliable I am and how easy I am to work with. I think they're just so tangled up in miscommunication that everything is getting screwed up. That or the freight just isn't there. Or both! Who knows?

Haha Chinatown, I agree. I have been here in the Philippines for the last 10 days. Angeles city ( Sin city ) Philippines. It has been a great trip as usual but in a few hours I will be flying back to Korea, where it is supposed to snow tomorrow. But you have to look at the bright side. I had some vacation time to burn and this last 10 days has been paradise. Anytime you can take a few days off will for sure clear the mind.

That's the truth. My company got tired of sending trucks to Volvo all the time for minor sensor issues that they bought the Volvo data link software to read the codes.

You run reefer, try the ice cream company called BlueBell. I talk to the otr drivers and most of the loads they run from the factory are d/h's.

if I read right you have 2 years otr experience and young and single, there is no doubt where I would be if I were you. west texas oil fields making anywhere fom 60 to 100k a year with good benefits. easy work and you get paid for every hour you are at work, makes a big deference on that pay check. plenty of driving jobs there.
