A rookie taking home $500 isn't that bad. You are not going to make $50K your first year.
Dinomite, baha and Skydivedavec Thank this. -
Go with Schneider tanker division. I don't think Millis will hire anyone unless they graduated from their CDL school or has one year experience.
Schneider tanker will set you up for some good pay in the near future. Stick with them at least one year. You will probably make real good money there & if you decide to move on you can easily move to another tanker company and make over $60K.Skydivedavec Thanks this. -
I am sorry, but working 14 h/day , 6 days / week........that 7s now way . By the time he pays for his food ( he eats in his truck in order to save money) and pays his mortgage, he is left with nothing. It has to be more in this industry than that. With all due respect.

Thank you CC. You are a good man. I appreciate it.

What type of trucking you do out of the gate is a very personal decision depending on the individual and his/her work ethic, expectations, and goals ... and perhaps initial home time needs. Being in Atlanta, I'd say you are in no way restricted due to home location.
I don't like to see new guys go right into tanker but some see no problem with this. Flatbed requires a real work ethic, problem solving abilities, and unique sense of pride, van [and reefer] is universal and a reasonable choice for most anyone in the beginning. Don't focus on the money. Don't push yourself into tanker or flatbed if you have any reservations in the beginning. That said, many have the drive and determination to make anything work if that's really where they want to begin.Last edited: Jan 19, 2014

Better listen to your elders. Condo and China won't tell you something that's wrong, from all I've read here.

I have no reservation TX. I am a hard worker and extremely handy. I used to be and still am in the possesion of General contractor license. I want to work hard and I NEED to make money. The construction business is down here. My house will be sold by the 15 of Feb. Will have my things in storage and have a room at my sister's for a while until I get back on my feet. Ihave no kids nor wife. I am 45 years old and kinda unhappy with the way my life turned out. Clock is ticking...you knw my friend?

Good stuff here. I want to drive tanker, already got the endorsements +HM, but I'm cutting teeth on dry van first.

Check out TMC Transportation. They're a flatbed company that hires newbies. Excellent training and good pay. Home move most weekends. I've never done flatbed work but I would go there without a second thought if I ever do decide to go flatbed. Best of luck and keep us informed
