It's more the software you're interested in than the scanner itself. The software is what recognizes the scanned document and categorizes it. There maybe other programs that are similar.. I'll look around.

There are many apps you can use to scan. If you own the software those are the most secure and puts doc in proper place. Software is expensed and anything you use it with is generally depreciable. Pays for itself really.

I recommend Truckn Pro 7 from Fog line Software. Good training videos. Seems to be a real live truckers idea. It is not a tax software but it is great for getting you organized.

As a company driver who lives in a non-income tax state, and who does not do per-diem and who saves my motel and other driver related receipts and itemizes, I've always used H & R Block's basic software and it works fine IMO.

It is a little confusing as to where you input your meal allowance for it to calculate, but it works once you get it in the right place.

I simply need to know the number of days I was away from home and multiply that by the IRS allowed daily allowance, and it will handle the 20% reduction for you

Motels, showers, and other driver expenses have their own section to plug in those numbers.

I stay in a motel probably 2 nights/week and accumulate 20 or 30 other misc receipts throughout the year. I can total them all up in less then 5 minutes, no big deal. Don't need a scanner, just basic #10 envelopes throughout the year and a large envelope to save them along with your 1040 copy.

Don't forget to get your safety dept to email you your log recaps if on Elogs and do this every quarter before they delete older data.

What do you like about Truckn Pro 7? What's the defining feature?
