My Brother in law owns a trucking company in Australia and there screaming for drivers over there!!!!!!!! , $1200 a week and your home every night. He runs a few highway trucks and the rest are log and chip trucks.

GASOLINE here is $1.10 LESS than Diesel at a few places!
Thats TOTAL ########! Man am I glad I dont drive a 4wheeler that takes Diesel... I would really be in trouble... 10-4?

DIESEL here at a few stations is still $4.19.9

And EVEN IF they lower the Price NOW that STILL DOES NOT solve our FREIGHT RATE issue!!!!!!!!!

The price of fuel shouldn't even be an issue....its the freight rates. If the rate is too cheap to cover all of your expenses and still make a profit don't haul it.Simple enough I believe.Strike all you want but nothing will get solved that way.What....you think Bush will lower fuel prices because a bunch of truckers go on strike? Dream on:biggrin_25519:Too many so called O/O 's should not be in the business to begin with, so this will just be a long overdue house cleaning.

I have read allot of the post on here about the shut down and i am glad i am safe and sound over here in Iraq. Man the bickering going on in these post between drivers and O/O and independent and company drivers. that is what the shipper and the gov count on is us at each others throats when the times get tough. Each one blaming the other calling names and starting the battle amongst each other. The industry as a whole needs to change not just parts of it. Until we the industry come up with a better way to operate it will never change. We figure out what it cost us to operate a mile and then we add 30 to 50% to that for a profit margin just like any business does and that is what it takes to get a load moved period we stick to it and don't budge if the cost of operating goes up so do the rates if not don't haul it period. Now since i have been out of the game for 4 years over here i am not well versed on the cost to operate today but with the fuel what it is i can only guess its some where around 1.20 or so when i was running and fuel was like 1.89 it cost me around .78 cents to operate the truck alone that's not counting wages. So in todays economy I can see it costing at least 1.20 or more to operate at the break even point. So if it was me and i was negotiating for a contract to haul some ones freight i would do my home work and look at the out and back before i pulled a load so i could come back M/T if i had to rather than hauling the cheap stuff just to get back to the good pay. Every one needs to stick together and flat boycott these cheap places let the cut throats have them and when they go under pick up equipment cheap and then jack up the rate to double just so the cheap guy remembers he could have still been in business if he had paid what was fair to start with. Until we organize as a industry and stand together we are never going to change the industry and that is what has to happen not just strike for a few days and have them throw you a bone or 2 only to have them take it from you in a month or so. Stick together and as an industry you can change it if your willing to look the other guy in the face and call him brother no matter what his politics and remember united we stand and divided we fall so unite brother truckers and make them come to you. And i wish you all the luck in the world.

Well Matthews, I'm not sure what the guy's handle was. I was in my 4wheeler and he was pulled over along I-79 with smoke coming off his trailer. We figured out it was just steam but he was shocked that a female would pull over to offer assistance. Well sorry, I dont like seeing a fellow driver in possibly trouble.

Well long story short, after all that, he offered to buy me dinner. Ok sure, I'm going to turn down not having to cook, right. :biggrin_25512:

He was an O/O, first name was Ron. Really nice guy from Montana.

You'd know me if you talked to me.

The problem is not the fuel cost... the problem is the freight... Nothing can be done on the amount of freight available... What can be done is...

Regulate the brokers commissions, like any other broker, there should be a cap...
