    My father drove trucks from the time he was a teenager (military) till he passed away 6 years ago. His philosophy was, "If it is so bad you need chains, then park it. No freight is worth yours or someone else life". However, I realize that some states require you to carry chains on certain lanes during certain periods of the year...regardless if you need them or not. See:

    Trans Am will pay you for the short way over the mountains. If you are going to Wyoming, or Nebraska for a delivery I would go I-15 to I-80. Although if you are loaded light I would advise going the southern route, but if your heavy loaded go across Wyoming. Just my opinion.

    Ok the National Weather Service finally issued a winter storm warning for Texas.....they have the bad weather as being more in Central and Southeast Texas, but I have seen some folks online predicting that it will also encompass Central and Northeast Texas. So, heads up for any travel in all of those parts of the state from late tomorrow night through Friday. Also, they are saying two more Alberta Clippers will impact the upper Midwest and Northeast before the end of the month.

    WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON...
    THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN HOUSTON/GALVESTON HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WATCH... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM LATE THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON.
    * TIMING... MAINLY EARLY FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON. PORTIONS OF THE WATCH MAY BE UPGRADED TO A WARNING TOMORROW WHERE AREAS MAY RECEIVE MORE THAN A EIGHTH OF AN INCH OF ICE ACCUMULATIONS. ADVISORIES MAY REPLACE PORTIONS OF THE WATCH WHERE ICE ACCUMULATIONS WILL BE LOWER.
    * THREAT... ICE ACCUMULATIONS FROM SLEET OR FREEZING RAIN OF 0.05 TO 0.15 INCHES.
    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
    A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOW... SLEET... OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL. CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.
    &&
    [h=2]More Information[/h]... WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FOR MOST OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS...
    A COLD FRONT WITH AN ARCTIC AIRMASS BEHIND IT WILL MOVE INTO SOUTHEAST TEXAS ON THURSDAY. TEMPERATURES WILL HOLD STEADY AND THEN BEGIN TO FALL DURING THE DAY. TEMPERATURES SHOULD DROP BELOW FREEZING THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY MORNING. MOISTURE RIDING OVER THE FRONTAL BOUNDARY WILL PRODUCE AREAS OF RAIN DURING THE DAY THURSDAY. PRECIPITATION MAY THEN CHANGE FROM RAIN TO FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET. AREAS FROM COLLEGE STATION TO HUNTSVILLE MAY EXPERIENCE A MIX OF SNOW AND SLEET EARLY FRIDAY. AREAS TO THE SOUTH INCLUDING HOUSTON MAY EXPERIENCE A MIX OF SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN WITH FREEZING RAIN POSSIBLE ALONG THE COAST. WINTER STORM WARNINGS AND ADVISORIES MAY BE ISSUED DEPENDING ON EXPECTED ICE ACCUMULATIONS EXPECTED IN THE WATCH AREA.

    Thanks for the advice Kirk. They sent me to Denver last time. This was when they still issued route solutions and the solution sent me the southern route, but paid miles only worked if I drove straight across I-15 to 70 (problem with chain law, I-70 in Colorado).

    I know in the Rockies the weather can change on a dime but for now the weather reports are good over the time period I will likely be crossing. I will just wait and see what the backhaul will be.

    Hiya HTQ :hello2: Yes, I got the same DM, same DM from my first day solo until now.

    Yes, I am back online and producing miles in a 2011 T- 700. I was offline for 4 days and 2 hours due to breakdown with my old truck, I put in for 3 days of breakdown pay (excluded Sunday). No reply about it from my DM yet.

    To compare the three trucks I have had with TransAm. My first 660 was a much better truck with only 300K miles, than my second 660 with more than 600,000 miles. Second 660 had a lot of quarks and nagging problems. This T-700 with 300K miles, from a driver comfort stand point, blows both of the 660s away. From reading what Oliver wrote, I know to lower the top bunk and make a tent to keep the lower bunk warm at night. So with that problem solved, from a driver comfort stand point. I am very happy with this T-700.

    From a trucking stand point. The 660 with a Cat engine was a better truck, a better drivetrain. I have to keep looking down at my gauges as this T-700 is so under powered compared to the 660, I think I am having some kind of breakdown issue when trying to accelerate in many situations. The Eaton auto trans seemed to work better in the 660. 660 was just a better set up. That said, I am already making adjustments in how I drive this rig, learning, and it will be fine.

    Hope all is well with you, the King and your two up and coming UFC prospects.
