Here is a question....what is the policy if a driver decides to leave Stevens? I spoke to a current driver yesterday who informed me they were afraid to leave Stevens because even if the truck is parked in a secure location they will will report it as abandoned And charge 100.00 a mile to retrieve the truck. Plus ruin your DAC report and history no matter how good you are/were. And if you bring the truck to their yard they bully you into staying with threats of ruining your DAC. I have heard other driver boast of drivers come back to Stevens because the company makes it impossible for them to go anywhere else. Is there any validity to this?

Policy for leaving stevens, honor your contract, then return the truck to Dallas, take the day to turn it in, and walk away. Don't honor your schooling contract, and yes they will report that fact to USIS, and to the credit agencies.
They did NOT ruin my USIS, and I had another local trucking job one short month later. Those who leave without honoring their schooling contract do have a ruff time.
I paid for a local school, then went to stevens, so I had NO contract to pay back. -

If you do not return your truck to the yard any company can report it as abandonment. Even if you were told to leave it somewhere. I don't know if Stevens will do that to you or not but they can. A friend of mine took his truck to the yard and got Stevens to pay for a bus ticket home. I suspect individual results will vary on this. A guy I teamed with was instructed to leave his truck in Colorado Springs when he went to Werner. I don't know if he had the job first or not. Another friend quit and left his truck in Michigan. He already haf a job with the oil fields.

Do they still come pick up trucks if you take more than 5 days off?

I have taken 7 days off and not a word was said.

When I left Stevens I was under a load. My fuel stop was in Little Rock and my load took me past Dallas (to Waco if I remember right). Once I fueled I told my DM to route me to the yard because I was quiting. He asked if I would do him a favor and deliver the load and for some reason I trusted him and delivered. I got back to Dallas after that load and turned my keys in. I got my full pay check as well as the reimbursements for my meat lock, etc. I will have to say that Stevens treated me fairly when I left. I haven't seen my DAC so they may have screwed me there, but I don't know. I was a company driver. I was told to make sure I had enough fuel to get to Dallas before I told them I was leaving in case they shut off the fuel card.
timsullync and baha Thank this.
