I ended up here because I was about to respond to a CR England ad and googled. This seems to be the place for good, honest info so I'm hoping you'll help me out. My husband has always wanted to drive and I figured tax return time would be a good time for us to afford him not working to go through the training. I've read enough posts on here that I've learned CR England is not the way to go. I'll be completely honest....We are low income but he will not qualify for WIA because he is 31 and never registered for selective service. He was raised in foster care and says no one ever told him anything about it. Which leads me to the next potential problem. Although he graduated high school, he can barely read. He actually got his drivers license in the first place by putting a transmission in for a guy who worked at the DMV who sat beside him and told him the answers. I'd have no problem staying with him in the hotel during the training and pounding facts into him to help him pass the test, if they allow that. That being said, he is very mechanically inclined and has driven large trucks (works for a moving company now), dump trucks, fire trucks, and can reverse a truck with a trailer better than Mater. He also had a drivers license 30 day suspension about 4 years ago for no proof of insurance. Factoring all of this in, should he just forget it, go with a crap school like CR England, or try for one of the good ones? We could pay $500 or so upfront. Also, we live in WV but it's 5 minutes from OH and about an hour to KY. Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

So you guys live off of I-64? It is worth giving Millis Transfer a call 800-937-0880.

I wouldn't worry about the lic susp for no proof of ins, I just got out of school, have my Class A, and I've lost my lic 8 times when I was younger all for non-moving violations (canceled ins, owing excise tax etc), and none of the companies I've talked to care. Moving violations are what their after. NOW I have a clear license, positive driver points and that's what their concerned about. For the reading thing though, that may or may not be an issue. If he is fine with all signage he can obviously drive, but can he study all the Federal Regs, read all his work related paperwork? He's only 31, that needs to be fixed, their's no running away from something like that. I wish you guys the best of luck.

I guess Millis is out of the question. They said WV is out of their hiring area. Thanks anyway. Can anyone suggest another company to try?

He will have to be able to read traffic signs. As to reading the test questions most states will have someone who will sit there and read them to him. No reason to be ashamed of that. He should work on reading it is a skill that makes life more enjoyable.
As to what school. Local community colleges are my preferred way. You may need help from your Congressman to over come not lining up for the Draft. But that is what they are there for. Ask their staff to assist you.
The schools should have recruiters come around. Have him point out his mechanical skills. That will help. Good luck and welcome to the forum.Figuring this out Thanks this. -
I responded to an ad for Pam but look at reviews it looks like that's a bad idea. The good thing is they have him on their website studying and taking tests and with no help from me, he's gotten a passing score on the practice drivers test after spending yesterday and today at it. Can anyone suggest another company school that hires in my area?
