I've been driving OTR since 07 as a company driver.I have driven for TMC ,Mavrick ,JB Hunt ,and I am about to finish a lease purchace of a 09 cascadia with KLLM contracted to Tyson under their reefers .I keep hearing I can make more money operating as an independant , to that end I read and listen to every sorce I can find . But Im not even sure of the termenology much less the workings of the business .I need a crash corse in independent owner operater 101. Can anyone direct me to a good sorce for this information

There is a alot of good information avilable in this forum so spend some time looking around. Ask as many questions as you can,remember there is no dumb question. Chances are one of us has made at least one boneheaded mistake,and some have made alot more. Its better to learn from our experience than go out and make what can sometimes be a very costly mistakes.

Tell me about your cascadia,how its set up and what your getting for MPG. Having a good reliable horse that pushes 8 mpg and is paid for is gong to put you in a very good position over here. Also get your numbers together ahead of time. Know your total cost per mile to operate your business and be sure to keep your personal finances seperate. If you dont know your numbers that big advantage I just spoke about with your truck will be diminished. My guess is that you will be able to pull for a cheaper rate than those of us with truck payments. Not that you will but you will have a greater opportunity to explore lanes if you can get buy on freight that lives in the 1.80-2.00 range. Your numbers will determine exactly what you need to be looking for as far as rates go.

 

My wife got approved first then got her truck. Wanted to make sure she had a job before having a truck payment.

We just got our second truck from lone mountain in Tipton Ga.

 

There's always been this "special forum", according to LSAgentOZR. It's special. Even if one is a BCO, it's in a special place. LSAgentOZR always acted like one needed an invitation. It's fully accessible to all BCO's. LSAgentOZR was full of himself, because he wanted everything to be "special". (I expect the ban-hammer any minute.)

 

Digging up an old thread just to bash a guy who can't defend himself. Your just mad he called you out when your husband destroyed that load of glass and you were blaming everyone but your husband.
