I'm spending the night at my favorite rest area in the country. This little jewel is between L.A. and San Diego with view of the Pacific and a distinct taste of eucalyptus trees in the air. Today I delivered some tile from Dallas in Anaheim. This load picked up Wednesday afternoon, so I've been booking! I was rolling at 03:30 PST from Benson, AZ and rolled into Dal Tile at about 13:30. It didn't hurt that it's a balmy 75 degrees here too.
The most amazing thing about this trip to me is my fuel mileage. I scaled out at 79,340 but with a nice aerodynamic trailer. Westbound across Texas isn't usually very encouraging, but somehow I rolled a seven and hooked onto a fat tail wind. Bottom line was a respectable 7.36 MPG measured at the pump. I have been talking to a couple of drivers on I-40 pushing through a monster headwind westbound. It's good to be lucky!
As soon as I sent in my empty call I got a pre-plan picking up in San Diego going to Olathe, KS for 1,617 miles. It would be nice for that strong west wind to hang around for a while to give me a little boost! This load delivers Tuesday morning and fits my logbook pretty well after this week's cross country trek. The plan says that it's 36,000 pounds too, which would be a lot lighter than anything I've had in the last couple of weeks.

Nice to hear that you are rolling nicely! And you will get out of Ca. without having to buy that expensive Fuel? Take Care. Drive Safe!

Heck, just driving from Houston to Lafayette, La today would be enough to make you decide if you really want to be a driver. Solid ice and little to no de-icing stuff (salt, sand, brine, etc). Turned in to an all day affair, slipping on the bridges. Empty wagon also. At least the windshield was clear and not caked up with snow or ice.
Saw one of the JCT trucks going west near Beaumont. A Cascadia all pretty and shiny. Must have just gotten it washed. -
While fueling in AZ today, I had a driver with another company ask me how I liked driving for JCT. I told him, it's been a great 5 days...lol. He was considering leaving his current employer, where he's worked for 24 years (and has a 2 million mile safe driving award plastered on his truck to show for it) and jump over to JCT. He said he's talked to countless JCT drivers, and is really impressed with what he's heard, and what he knows first hand. Then after heading back to the truck after a shower, I had another person approach me....and I'm preparing for another JCT question/answer session....nope, dude just wanted a 5 buck handout for beer...lol! Livin' the dream
luvtotruck, Trafficcontrolxl and Jarhed1964 Thank this. -
Treputt I have been approved to go to JCT and I would like to know how you did in orientation and if you had any difficulties with any of it? I do not know when I will be able to get to orientation hopefully soon just would like some input on it. Have you pulled reefers before going to JCT?
Pulled into a TA in Commerce City GA tonight and a JCT was sitting across from me. It was a Peterbilt was gonna go talk to him but did not know what he was doing so I went to eat and take a shower when I came back out he was gone. Guess he did not want to stick around. I think the number was 27xxF. -
