I buy the Motor Carriers atlas every year. not the laminated.

just to keep up with the laws that are in the front pages.

no GPS, dumb phone, pen and pad of paper.

update the pen cartridge every few months.:biggrin_25523:

It occurred to me today that with a GPS they have a memory in them I'm sure. What would stop them from dumping the memory on the GPS to check your log book etc. I'm sure that isn't a really big deal to some as their log book already has one but its a matter of principle to me. I won't be tracked or monitored on every move I make. Its just another tool that they can use against you should they choose.

Wow that's the most paranoid thing I've ever heard said. If your that paranoid about having someone check your logs your running illegal and SHOULD have someone watching you. And no they can't dump the memory on the GPS. Why would they? I mean holy Jesus.

You can be tracked by your cell phone as well.

Regarding the issue of GPS versus using an atlas, I'm emphatically of the opinion, "Yes!"....

... use every bit of information you can if you are traveling a route that is new or to a new destination. I use my RM Atlas, my GPS, Google Maps and Streetview, and call the customer for directions. Stay aware and use as many tools as it takes to get the job done.
