If it is truly only lack of work history that is holding you back, go get a job at 7-11 or similar.
Unless you're an experienced driver looking for work, all the starter companies simply need a work history.... ANY work history.
I see burger flippers start out in this business.
They just want to see if you will actually work, or are looking for a company to use to get on the unemployment bandwagon.

The exclamation points at the end of all your sentences won't help you on here, Sir. Basically, the person that made the original post was trying to give you a direction to go in. Take it or leave it...but no one here can make your problems disappear, just try to help.

It is my understanding that being unemployed is NOT a reason for a company not to hire you. What they have to do is find a way to verify where you were and what you are doing. Tell the company you were unemployed but did odd jobs for income. Like mowing yards. Give them a number and contact name of a friend who can verify that.

    Do you have a CDL-A..?
If you have a CDL-A then apply for a refresher course with Paschall Truck Lines or Western Express.

Swift or PTL will take you. All you need is 2 references saying what you did during that time you lacked work history. Don't blame it on the economy. Or anything for that matter. If they ask just provide reasonable things, like you were struggling during that time, or messing around but you are serious now, you got your CDL and you are ready to take the next step in life.

OK here are a couple things -

1 - the companies are not asking for work history because they want to know, many don't care - it is a federal regulation,

2 - you have to account for all the time going back 10 years, this does not mean you have to have gaps but just put in "unemployed" or "independent contractor in construction" and the date. If they need more info, they will ask for it.

Now the question that may be on the minds of others is do you have a CDL or are you applying to go to school?

I SERIOUSLY DOUBT you were turned down JUST because of work history if you are applying as a new student or new cdl holder. Now IF you are trying to get on as an experienced driver, well yes, being out for two years your skills have probably gone rusty and you need a refresher course.

IF you are applying with no CDL for a company to train you it depends on the company. Since they are paying for your training SOME of them tend to be more picky, PRIME is one that comes to mind you pretty much have to have a SPOTLESS work record to get them to train you. Other companies, not so much.

IF you are applying after going to school and getting your CDL there should be NO PROBLEM getting hired somewhere if you have been out of work for two years or twenty years. Like ohters said just account for your time. My friend took two and a half years off after he got a little inheritence went to school got his cdl and had NO PROBLEM getting people to hire him, and got pre hires from so many he was having trouble making a decision, he went with Schneider and has liked them.

    That's been my experience.
