I have never pulled a reefer or had an apu, but neither bothers me a bit to run all night. A truck idling doesn't bother me either. I do dislike the air drier blowing off every few seconds or minutes even. And if its that bad I have the option to move.
What gets to me is some one that gets out of their truck every little bit and slams the doors each time.
Do you mind other drivers idling next you at the truck stop

"Hang - Man" and RVTransporter Thank this.

Depends on the weather and if they REALLY need to idle other than that its their FUEL not mine.
-
For the most part, no, but there are some circumstances. Like the guy who had the large, unmuffled pipes and ran it at high idle to show what a horse's backside he could be. And people who idle next to me in fair weather, when it's perfectly fine to just leave the truck off and leave a window open. Oh, yeah... and the ones who have the grass burner exhaust aimed at your cab (talking about pre-DPF/SCR trucks here). On the topic of the DPF/SCR trucks, I'd certainly hate to be next to one of them on a night when I was trying to sleep with the windows open.. aside from the ammonia smell, it would be just my luck that the person next to me would have a regen that night, and that's a lot of heat.

I can park within five feet of a busy railway line and still sleep like a baby. Someone wants to idle, I'm not going to complain. Some don't have the luxury of an APU or it is so cold that the APU can't keep up. Below a certain temp, I will idle all night.

joking aside, there are some annoying reefers out there... the ones that squeel and the ones that sound like 2 bowling balls and a hand full of bolts in a washer machine on a slow spin cycle.05 FreightShaker Thanks this. -
I like the hum of the truck running it helps me sleep. I had an apu that would wake me up more than a truck running. Now I'm starting to pull reefer next Monday, I've slept next to them and it never really bothers me but we will see when i'm actually in the truck.....

nope....to each his own..if that driver is comfortable with it runnin....i say let him/her be comfortable.....we have enough crap to deal with rather than complaining about someone running their truck...what one person is comfortable with, doesnt mean the next one is....if it was up to me we wouldnt have left it runnin much when we were stopped....but he was always hot....but i have for the most part pulled a reefer....so a truck idling didnt bother me....thats the problem...too many people tryin to say what the OTHER GUY should or shouldnt be doing....
Chinatown, wore out, RVTransporter and 3 others Thank this. -
In short, stay safe. -
