No one EVER asks for your PIN. You go to a machine and withdraw money they pay in cash. Or if you do make a purchase at a counter, you NEVER EVER give out your PIN!!! You use the machine and enter it yourself discreetly.

My wife works at a credit union she got me a debitcard about 2 months ago for when I get on the road (only 2 weeks left) but any way she told me to tell them its credit and you won't have to enter a pin. I have used it many time and it does work that way. I sliped once and said debit and had to come up with my pin thank god I remembered it.

Glad you were not hurt. It is a shaking experience when you are hit by someone (or something!)

We use our debit card at stores like a credit card. This avoids the "handling charge" banks put on when you use it as a debit card. If your debit card has the logo of a credit card company on it you should be able to use it this way.

I have used my debit card in either mode since the early 90's. There have never been any handling charges.
