Hogan might be a bit gunshy about dui's. My brother, and I wish I was making this up, got popped a few years ago for on US 23 in Ohio. IN THE TRUCK! OSP impounded the truck and 45,000 of Budweiser.

You should contact companies first and get a commitment to hire you before going though the expense of the school. There are.companies who have their own schools but be careful with them and dont assume that because they take you into their school they will hire you..

I started with a bottom feeder so to speak..covenant.. paid my dues as you say and moved on..

12 years later.. now 57 years old.. I have been doing quite well for years...

I didn't have the driving record you have but it can be done..

    stay straight and be safe...

Thanks Tow, I know it's hard to believe from the trouble I got into 14 years ago but I'm really not much of a drinker. I won't lie I do have a few beers here and there but have never been an alky, just got stupid back then when newly divorced and was hanging around the wrong women and lost all common sence for about a year and made some really bad choices!! Thankfully when I got into the trouble there were never any accidents or injuries other than to my wallet and driving record, but I have my head on straight and have ever since all that.

I really want to be a driver and am going to keep trying and and researching all of my options and hopefully it all works out!

Also i've spent today researching financial options for me here in Missouri and it looks like I qualify for a grant from the state to attend an accredited cdl training school here and that way I won't be tied into a contract with any carrier and also won't be out of any money if no on hires me.

England would be the absolute last resort...

You will find something... try smaller companies

I understand I'm not in a position to be picky but the cdl school also contacted me again today and is looking into P.A.M and Trans Am for me.

Any thoughts on those two companies?

I'm surprised Chinatown hasn't commented in here, but maybe this isn't his cup of tea per se. Anyway, yes, get companies to give you pre-hire letters BEFORE you start school. That is your best bet. If you are considering looking into company-based training look into your state's regulations on transferring your CDL back to your home state (where you receive your mail), if the company-based training is out of your state. Just do your research. I say staying in your state is key, but get those pre-hire letters just to insure your job possibilities out of school!

On the background checks: yes, most companies do a 10 year period check. It all depends on the severity of your prior charges at hand. I know with the HAZMAT, it goes all the way back. Still, any offenses could show up on your background check. Just be honest, but don't share too much information (if need be).

    Best of luck to you!
