I trained with CR England. I bought my own truck and drove for them for one year. After I left England I got my operating authority. I have been driving for myself since then. Any questions you may have feel free to ask and I will answer them.

Am I less American because I drive a truck with a foreign name. Our own military is buying their bombers from Airbus "French". I served in the US Army. Chevrolet is manufactured in Mexico and assembled in the US and Toyota is manufactured in Japan and built in US. Which is more American?

thats great sand,,, was going to start school in neosho mo in a week or so, but my time table is going to push it off for another 30 days while i finish up here in tx on the farm,,, never goes like you expect does it?
the reason i was looking at this paticular thread was on fuel savings,,, doesnt se to be that much intrest in a feild that is the main expense...
My plan was to go thru the school and work for an owner operator for a small of a time as possible, then get a truck and do medium runs in the farm/ranch type trucking,,, reading between the lines I dont want to work all the time maybe 15 days a month............... the big question is does that pencil? you may have some insight for me? I need to work and keep busy more than I need alot of money, if that makes sence.... hope you didnt think I was being to harsh in our previous conversations,,, hope to chat with you more,,,, oh and also get to challange you its good for the brain........................smiling

its not about names but jobs, and a secure future for our children,,,just because we are global doesnt mean we cant have good manufacturing jobs here,,,,,,,,,right?

Az, the more time a truck runs the more profitable it is. Unless you have a customer lined up that will be able to cover all of your expenses in only half a month, it would be tough to only run half a month. I run 3 weeks at a time and then take about 4 days off. I do ok financially but not as good as I should when factoring the amount of time away from home. The longer a truck stays on the road, the lower the hit on fixed cost. If your truck is on the road 27 days out of the month versus 15. With a 27 day cycle you have more income to pay your truck payment and insurance versus 15 days of income to make the same payment. I ru n my truck as a team so I can maximize my return on investment.

I worked in a machine shop in Columbus IN making pulleys for Cummins back in the 90's. I used to be a Ford man until the people at the parts counter thought their phone call was more important than servicing a paying customer. I bought a Nissan after that because it was a better product and I feel no loyalty for someone who take my busuness for granted.

that all makes complete sence part of your overhead is fixed if the truck isnt running overhead percentage will climb,,,, the big question is if i go out and pay 60 k for a decent truck,,, between 10k to 40 k for trailer(s)
is there any money left in the kitty,,,, lets call it fruit for the labor,,,,
most of the parts I cant put a pencil to is insurances, licences , taxes in one for or the other,,,, this endever is more of a hobby that shold pay some and keep me engaged in some light form of buisness

I hear you,,, but i still pick up every single consumer item purchased, check where its made,,, US first pick china last,, US even if its 50% more,,,could be our job next

If I run my truck for 300 days per year my fixed cost is $250/day. If I run only 150 days per year my fixed cost is $500/day. Variable cost such as fuel and driver pay is not included. A capital investment such as a Class8 truck needs to run as many hours per day/month/yearas you can run it. The more you run it the more profitable it is for the investor, you the owner.

There is money to be made. Profit margins are slim in trucking. With less than 3 yrs experience you will pay $17k for insurance. I would buy a reefer trailer because reefer freight pays more and offers flexability of freight. Fixed cost, variable costs, return on investment and driver pay must be estimated and divided by estimated yearly mileage to determine your rate per mile. Mine is $1.76/mile. That is the rate I cannot go below. It will be different for every company.

As far as the parts counter goes it was the golden rule. They treated me as if I didnt exist and I decided to do the same.
