After sitting through this quarters hour-long sustainment training video, I found myself wondering what the true point of these videos are. I have a hard time imagining they are actually helping to make safer drivers, its the same repetitive message on every video, you just sit there mindlessly clicking through it until you get to the test, answer the same questions you've answered a million times, maybe worded a little differently, and then go on.
The videos themselves often consist of some cheesy animations, for example, this quarters video had some acronym spelled out with kids building blocks falling from the air with letters on them. Treat us like professional drivers and not preschool kids watching a Sesame Street video on how to spell a 5 letter word.
Why don't they make some videos that might actually teach the drivers something and keep them engaged? For example, they send out the mass messages to the Qualcomms about brakes freezing, and then go on to say to use a bar or hammer to strike them. Ok, wouldn't this be the perfect kind of thing to make a video about? Make a good video showing the required tools, and how to properly use them to free the brakes. Or putting on tire chains, which can be used for getting out of the mud, not just snow, something that we commonly face given these crappy places with mudpits of drop yards that we get sent to.
Seems to me that if the company wants me to take an hour out of my day to sit in front of the computer screen to watch their video, they could put a lot more useful material in it other than telling me to "Drive S.M.A.R.T".
Quarterly training videos, why not make them actually useful?

Haha, well you know when a company has hundreds or thousands of drivers, they're speaking to the least common denominator. It's like advertising beer. Who's really going to listen if the ad goes into detail about why you should buy cheap watery beer,, when images of mammaries and people having fun are far more effective

I'm glad I am not the only one that hates these videos. I did an orientation once that actually told you what to do at stop signs, what speed limit signs met, and what to do when you see signs with arrows on them. Even went so far as to tell us you have to look before you back up. I always figured it was some exec type that either liked being in front of cameras or liked getting his kids in videos.

I struggled with this one. It. Never. Ended.

Since companies are required to hold safety meetings, this is schneiders answer to it. Yes cheesey but it works. Remember sni has a lot of drivers that are new. As for chains our trucks don't carry them year round. In spring time we turn them if u have them. And if I recall there's a video section last fall on frozen brakes. I can watch the videos in 30 mins. Then collect my $10 for it.

I always hated watching those videos and then having to actually pay some attention to it because they ask you some tricky worded questions every 2-3 minutes to make sure you didnt fall asleep. I always loved the summer training ones when the preach about watch out for all the extra cars on the road. No ##### what do you think I do 11 hours every single day.

The real joke is the 10 bucks they give you to watch it. It is so painful to watch them they should pay us 100 bucks.

im trying to remember what they did a couple years ago when they went on their ice cleat kick. You were required to do the training and signoff that you received your cleats in order to get your new boots and something else, I thought it was $40-50 back then. Those ice cleats were such a tripping hazard if your actually wore them it was a joke. Just like the stupid hub caps.
-
I never had a tripping Hazzard with my ice cleats. Have same pair that I was issued in 2010. Works just fine.
-
I never have had a problem when wearing the cleats on ice. However wearing them on a tile floor is another story.
As for the wheel covers at almost .25mpg difference I'm willing to deal with how dumb they look.
