Fantastic advice! You are absolutely correct about the purpose of truck driving schools. We make sure you are qualified to be hired, present you to employers and help you obtain your Class A CDL License. Think of it as truck driver boot camp. Once you graduate you will have additional training with your new employer and will ride with a trainer until they are comfortable with letting you drive on your own.

Wooly, would you mind if I used some of your advice in the article for new drivers I am preparing?

Honestly,I would drive to the facility and approach it by walking up to and then through the front door.Otherwise, you may draw unnecessary and negative attention to yourself.

oh and don't looked as if you just fell off the turnip truck.

I lied, said I could drive a truck. Backed a trailer thru Road cones, just luck. All I could drive was a garbage truck. 35 years ago. If you want it bad enough. SaddleTramp.

Backing up into tight TIGHT spots, especially in the dark, can be a challenge for some of us. After you're comfortable doing it in that large lot mentioned by others, you might want to make sure the instructors allow you to spend a good chunk of time practicing at night at the nearest truck stop and/or delivery location that doesn't have very good lighting out by the docks. This type of practice, when an experienced driver/trainer is with you, should be a huge help for when you're out dealing with the real world of trucking. Best of luck to you!
