So you DO need an ein # ? Why exactly is that? I mean..I know as an owner op..especially with your own tractor...that your not there employee...more like a partner...so because of that you need your own ein #?
-
I believe it's EMPLOYER IDENTIFICATION NUMBER.
-
I know what it is...but my question is..do you have to have it?? Is it mandatory for an owner op that owns their own truck with a big time company..
-
Yes. You have to have it. The IRS requires it. You'll be a sub-contractor paid via 1099.
-
I've seen a lot of owner operators paid against their SSN and who do not have an EIN unless they have a corporate name [LLC] registered with New Jersey.
They all need my DOT and EIN numbers to renew their registrations too. -
