Just bought the Rand McNally 720 GPS and can't figure out how to get it to match the directions my company sends. Tried different options but nothing works.

You can do it with via points and avoiding roads.
Pointless though if you have been given directions that you need to follow. -
If you have all the latest updates and map package ...u should be able to load you destination and press the Compare Route buttons...and proceed...also turn on toll roads in the settings so it calculates ALL possibilities.
-
I just took it out of the box and tried directions. I don't think I have to update.
-
I saw alternative route but not compare route. How do u access that option.

Need help, history icon is not lit up and won't let me click on on it. Also when I go to multi stop trips it will not let me click on current trip. Don't know how to unlock or what is wrong.

If there's no history yet, then you may not be able to use the history button yet. Also, just because its new out of the box, doesn't mean it doesn't need updated. Its actually pretty common to need to update a new gps with the most current maps, and sometimes software.

Beyond frustrated, there is a screen in the manual on page 8 that shows begin new route, compare routes, etc. I can't find the way to that screen. I entered multiple stops, hit start trip and it takes me to the map with directions. I can't figure out how to get to compare routes to see alternate directions. I also thought there was a way to force it to follow a certain path. I called the support line but they only have weekday hours. I guess no one ever has a problem on the weekend.

I don't why either of the trucker GPS devices don't allow a user to use a stylus, put the device is "custom route mode" or whatever, and select which roads to use (and thereby which not to use) to match a given set of directions. Or at least be able to "drag" the given route to match what you'd prefer.

The Garmin 760LMT learns your preferred routes automatically. So, once you have been there and know how to get there without it, it knows how to direct you to the place. Not one of the most useful features.
Jokingypsy Thanks this.
