If you are looking for a good job in trucking and drive solo then transport America might be the right move for you; they provide great benefits, wonderful training/continuing education and a reasonably good pay scale. Do NOT work for them if you are a husband/wife team! We worked for southern cal transport for 5 years prior to a buyout from transport America and I can say without exaggerating that it was a nightmare. PLENTY of mail runs... you know, UPS quickie hauls, DHL runs that have your tongues hanging out with no let up. LOTS of short hauls in the north east with multiple drop and hooks that have you both up all the time. There's really no need to guild the lily here. I'll conclude by saying that my wife wound up with fibromyalgia and I had blood pressure readings that forced me to take a year away from trucking. I will also say that transport America did everything possible to make it impossible to collect our disability insurance (which we had paid on for years) and then did everything in their power to prevent us from collecting unemployment insurance (also deducted from every paycheck). To give Steve Arves his due, he's pretty smart; the problem is, he is not a good employer for teams!
trnsport america good for solos bad for teams

Transport America is a very bottom line driven company. That is not bad, it is just a way of life. You will drive 62 miles per hour. You will avoid toll roads, lots of US Highways. You will fuel at the places they tell you to fuel. The pay is in the top of the industry for van drivers. They do have a CYA mentality. All in all, it is not a bad company. This is based on my 3 days experience with the company back in 2012. Of course when they have to choose who to fire between a wonderful employee like yours truly or a racist, homophobic, red neck, moron, they will make the wrong choice.

Pretty much what I was trying to say; thing is, bottom line driven companies do either solos well and teams poorly (see transport America) or solos poorly (too many to list) We are currently seeking a company that does teams well; if you know of one we'd appreciate it much!

We are a husband & wife team at US Xpress. They keep us busy. Pet friendly, rider policy, teams get new trucks & always gets us home on time.

I take it this man was your trainer? Funny how you accuse him of "racism" and then go on to label him a redneck. I'd like to hear his side of the story.TruckDuo Thanks this.

If you are paid by the mile and run US highways instead of toll roads, you lose money and the company saves money. No thanks!
