I put $20 in the wife's car last night. Didn't even hit the half mark on a 14 gallon tank.

Cruising hardly takes any power in a car. That's because they're very aerodynamics these days. In fact cars get their best mileage cruising at highway speed. So there's no need to slow down! Cars use the most of their fuel accelerating from stop, so if you just accelerate more slowly (not use too much gas) then you'll get better gas mileage.

It's less so for big trucks because of brick-like aerodynamics, and because of the weight too, I guess. Cars too, get significantly worse gas mileage the closer it is to its top speed, because then wind resistance start to become a factor. but that usually means well above 100mph. But here's a question? How much better mpg do you get when you're bobtailing? Compare that to when you're fully loaded, that's the effect of the weight on fuel economy. The rest then would be wind resistance!

My expedition gets 17-18 at 65mph and drops 1mpg for every 5 mph over 65. The Explorer gets 19-20 at 65 and has the same drop over 65 mph. Aerodynamics don't mean #### on most vehicles past 70 mph.........

well you can beleave this if you want. but a few weeks back i took a trip from new orleans to panama city beacj florida to my dads. i got 21.5 in he interstate running 66 mph.. i drive a o6 dodge ram big horn edition with the hemi..... if you are wondering how i got it.... it that trashy ### system that dodge put in them truck fuel saving mds..... multy diplacement system i think. in over drive it will drop out 4 cylinders out of 8 going down the road.... and with duel exhaust it sounds like the motor is missing 4 cylinders and it is with that system....
