Not sure where to start, Was heading down the hwy when I smelled burned wires and lost my heater.Searched and could not find any damaged wires but did find that now the airconditioner will draw to many amps and blow the 30amp fuse. I placed an ampmeter in the fuse and find it will draw 37amps. Without the air conditioner on the heater fans work fine.
Is there a 2nd fan that runs with the air conditioner?
Would low refrigerant cause more amp draw?
Anyone have an electrical diagram of the Air conditioner circuit as I cant find one?
Recommendations how to find the problem other than taking it to a shop as I prefer to do my own work.
Thanks for any advise

What kind of truck you got and what year?

no low freon charge will cause low psi switch to cut power to a/c clutch. sounds like you may have an a/c comp locking up and clutch is slipping and causing a/c clutch to draw to many amps. with engine off, and key switch off can you spin the front of a/c compressor by hand freely?. it may also spin freely by hand but not at speed driven by engine. you can also start truck and engage compressor and see if it turns freely .

Try unpluging the wire at A/C comp. then ck. if quits drawing you will replace comp.

This is on a 2005 Western Star with a MBE 4000. The amp draw is even with the key on and not running.
Next step will be to check the compressor draw I guess. Hope it is not there, could get expensive.
I did not think low freon would cause the issue but I thought I would ask anyway.
