Has anyone ever worked for Kenan / Klemm? Out of Milwaukee or anywhere else?

Hey, dextrdog, I just transferred to Klemm in Milwaukee ( I am working for an owner-operator) and let me tell you, you are not going to make $60 K per year delivering gas here. You get paid anywhere between $33 to $42 per load and if you drive during day shift, you will be lucky to get 4 loads per day. You are not going to have a m-f existence at this place. You will almost definitely be working weekends for years as all the guys with seniority have the weekends off and it took years for them to get there. Working for Klemm, you are going to be doing a lot of city loads where there are a zillion customers and the stations are very tight to get into and out of sometimes and you will more than likely start out on night shift. Keep that in mind before jumping ship. Just my opinion.

 

dextrdog, I think I know the owner-op you are talking about that pays $18 per hour. If it is the guy I'm thinking about, he is a mental case and fights with the drivers about paying every hour you worked. He also pays $18 straight time, no overtime. Also requires you to pay 70% of your medical insurance. The owner-op I took a job with pays peanuts. Really nice guy but you have to run like a madman to get loads. If traffic slows you down, oh well. As we speak, I am looking for another job and I only started two weeks ago. Seems hauling gas in the Milwaukee area is not a great paying gig at all. You will have a hard time finding a m-f gas hauling job as a rookie… It takes many years to get a m-f schedule hauling gas. You will also work holidays. Keep that in mind. I haul gas in mpls, and I prefer to stay in the city, and deal with crowded stations/traffic… Makes the day go quick.

 

Hauling Gas is a 24/7 deal. If you are looking to enter the business be prepared to work nights, weekends, holidays, etc. Every gasoline hauler has some trucks on the road Christmas day. If you are not prepared for that, this is the wrong business for you. The senior drivers have worked their way up to the better schedules.
