Walmart is well known to be king, but that is for the experienced driver.
I am just now finishing my first year with DOT Foods. I was promised $50K, I will make more like $55K. Health insurance paid for and home up to 4 times a week. The only caveat is that you need to live near the DC, the closest to you is Hagerstown, MD, and you must be willing to through freight sometimes. I will break down a load about every other week. -
If you have to ask then stay out of this industry!!!!
You dont need hair on your head to pass a hair test. -
I dont know about reefer, but with van, you open your doors, back up to a dock and chill out. Then you pull away, close the doors and drive. In flatbed, you must monitor the loading process to make sure the loader isnt screwing it up and is loading evenly. You have to strap it, use edge protectors or chains. Tightening the straps can be a lot of work if your not pretty heavy. You then may need to tarp it with trarps that weight 80+ pounds. If you want to do it quickly to have more drive time its a good workout without going to the gym.

I did flatbed for 3 months, the driving part wasn't any easier or harder then a van or reefer. But the hard work comes with tarping and untarping.Customers pay like around $125.00 to tarp and the driver receieves a very small portion of that and companies get the rest. They say its for binders straps tarps ect but I think drivers should receive every cent of that. They're the real workers in this not the companies.Unless the rules have changed, drivers don't receive any untarping pay.Reefers aren't any harder then van except you have a reefer to babysit, making sure it stays at the right temp and you have an extra tank to fill. But otherwise its a cakewalk like van is.
Lux Prometheus Thanks this. -
Hey Richter, by any chance you train people from Georgia, I'm about to start school, and looking hard at TMC . Trying to get homework started early..
-
I no longer work for TMC, but I'm pretty sure the hire from GA. I made so much at TMC that I was able to buy a truck without financing. Now I'm an owner operator pulling vans. I might go back to flatbed though because its better money and Im getting out of shape pulling vans.

Yes McElroy DOES hair test! I'm trying to find out about TMC and Howard Transportation myself. If you hear anything about those 2 companies please let me know. -
