Getting my new 2015 T680 end of March, Pax car motor 505 hp
-
Why paccar?
-
-
Lol . Thats funny.
Btw, I'm reading ISX manual. There are pretty interesting oil and coolant requirements. -
What did you find interesting? I know, the Fleetguard coolant is the "best". What about the oil?
-
0w-40 recommended for all temp conditions, 10w-30 and 15w-40 for warm temp. 0w-30 for fuel economy.
Actually, situation with oil looks more simple than with coolant. I didnt know coolant filter has chemical additives inside. -
Its pretty heavy, isnt it? I never pulled a reefer, anyone know how heavy this truck with all aluminum 48' flat?
-
Yes, it is. Previous truck was 35,000. So now I can pull only 42,000. Whatever.)
-
First impressions in first trip:
Pro:
- great ride. While suspension is new it swallows all road roughness. But I still afraid of some right turns/curves.
- almost insensitive to lateral wind.
- HID light is perfect.
- silent engine sound, especially when you start it. You cant believe you start truck engine, not passenger car.
- perfect doors and wind resistance. Even on windiest Wyoming conditions there were no wind on cab floor or whatsoever. Door insulation is stunning.
- great HVAC control and performance (while new). Buttons are very smooth and well lit. So is light/wiper control lever (see cons).
- great hood mirrors.
- good access to engine compartment (turbo, filters, etc)
- great red light floor illuminations (as idea).
- great audio system (although not even close to Bose in my car)
Cons:
- bad access to windshiled wipers: its difficult to climb on front wheel.
- lack of storage inside the cab in compare to previous volvo. Upper storage compartment are ridiculously small and therefore useless. I can't put full size file with paperwork on top shelf as I did on volvo.
- pivot table isnt so convenient.
- bed opening latch is sticky (comparing to volvo)
- bed DOES NOT hold in open position, air springs are weak.
- curtains rail is sticky (cant open or close it fast enough)
- annoying steering wheel adjusting lever (floor pedal on volvo is way better).
- grooved closet and shelf doors surface is prone to attract dirt, potentially difficult to clean.
- original Kenworth seating shows signs of production defect (bolster air bag, etc).
- no remote for door opening by default.
- cant open trunk door without a key, trunk door is small.
- remote jump start/battery terminals only under the hood. I need one more pair behind the cab (close to reefer battery in emergency).
- no easy access to battery compartment. You have to remove 6 bolts to open footstep.
- you can't book 150+150 fuel tank, although there IS room to accommodate it.
- glove box has no lock
- visors are simply bad. Its a shame to have it so bad in 21st century. I'm seriously considering to attach additional aftermarket visors to have good protection against the sun.
- no red LED dot-style light under drivers head - very useful in some situation and does not destruct vision.
- no red LED light in the bottom of door to lit footwell (red light under center console is not enough).
- side mirrors are relatively small, have big incline towards ground, have insufficient accuracy of position tuning/adjustments.
- no steering wheel warming.
- Cruise Control and Audio Control buttons on steering wheel are mixed up: its better to put CC to the LEFT side of steering wheel, not right.
- touch screen is not sensitive enough.
- absolutely bad windshiled washer control: to splash on windshiled you have to push outer case of left handle towards steer column - absolutely annoying and in the future may lead to lever failure. Washer itself is also not perfect: on windy conditions left one is especially useless.
- no default rear view camera.
Well, thats it for the moment.
