My nephew is going to work for a local company that hauls concrete and lime. The company will pay for his training in return he must work for them for a year. They will pay him 25% of the load and he will be home almost every night. I told him that this is a better way to start out than otr . He will drive around 750 plus miles a week. I would like an opinion from some of you veterans that have had experience in bulk or know something about it.

If he wants a job driving a truck then driving local and being home everyday is a sweet job. Having a company train him is worth about $5000 so there is that. He will work more during the construction seasons and probably get holidays off. He should be getting paid by the hour, most likely in the $23 per hour range. Pulling a bulk tanker is easier as long as he takes it slowly. They are smaller and thus easier to get where you want them to be. But they flip over if you go around curves too fast.

The best thing about starting out the way he is doing is that he will be gaining experience without having to worry about his DAC report getting all messed up. I am betting that the company will allow him to make a few mistakes without firing him. There is much to be said for being allowed to learn without a hangman following you around.

All in all, he has made a wise choice. He must have some Choctaw in is bloodline somewhere.:biggrin_25520:
