Did you ever take the ACE-II class? You can see what your recent fuel cost per mile is from macro 33 at the bottom of the page.

Thats not the point I am trying to make of course I watch my mpgs my concern is why there payments are the highest in the industry. Did you know you can buy a new Volvo with Dart for 400 a week? Brand New! Prime is also not concerned about getting you home even of you have a family. when I went home the last time I saw 30 prime trucks why can't they give you more runs and your home area. The only pocket book they care about is their own. Otherwise their trucks would not be 3 times higher than the national average. They would help you to buy the truck not charge you thousands down after you have drove it 4 years. They would lower the payments so I ts affordable to drivers and make sure you see your family. There needs to need a balance. There payments are so high and their freight is so cheap I couldnt go home even if I wanted to. They have me chasing my tail just to survive.

Sir the price should of detoured you from fleecing I mean leasing the truck in the first place. I'm sure there are cheaper models. That's what fleecing I mean leasing is all about. Getting the driver to pay for and over priced truck, maintenance, fuel, and driver's pay. While the company rakes in the cash. Come on sir you didn't think prime was doing this out of the kindness of their heart. lt pay's to be a PRIME TIMER. Literally

I also thought you had some type of say so in the area you run. So I guess the glorified company driver motto is true. Stay away from leases dude. Get your kids a gig with good health insurance and home time. At least as a company driver if you have a bad week you will get a check unlike leasing where you might not see a check for weeks.

I'm not arguing with you on any of this. A couple of points...

First, "watching your mpgs" is a long way from knowing your numbers. I find most lease ops who are struggling don't know what their numbers really are. Your fuel cost per mile tells a lot about your mpgs and how you buy your fuel. It's a metric that says a lot about how you manage your business.

Second, yep the costs are high, but you opted for an expensive machine. A lease on a Cascadia would have saved you about $300 per week. Anything financed on a three year term is going to be more expensive than on a five year term. I think you'll find that's how Dart and JCT keep their costs down. Also IIRC, those are just the truck payment numbers... the cost you're seeing on your settlement includes insurance, plates, permits, QC rental, etc.

Third, be careful about this... those guys have a pretty high failure rate. Make sure you ask about additional costs.

Fourth, the "thousands they charge you" is a down payment that comes off of the truck price. It's discounted $1,000 for every year of service you have at Prime. It's really a way of keeping folks with no cash from getting in way over their head too early in the game.

This can work, but one has to be smart about it and manage the truck as a business. I've completed a lease, and this time next year I will own my truck outright.
