I'm thinking about going into trucking, I've been working for a Budweiser company for 25 years I drove 8 years on a set route in town I was a supervisor for 4 yrs. and a salesman for 13 yrs. I want to get out of sales and get on the road a little, I'm tired of this company. What I want to know is can I make 500.00 dollars in 4 days and be off Fri Sat Sun. as a owner operator.

Yeash, Im not an owner operator but I havent heard of anyone doing that type of schedule. You can always take off the days that you can afford.

The problem comes when lets say, you get a good load going the opposite direction from your house....are you willing to turn the money down and possibly deadhead so many miles just to be home?

Maybe some container outfits. Google : drayage/container companies.
Lots of those companies around such as Triple Crown.

There are many Owner Operators who make one run a week. They leave on Tuesday and are back late Friday. They make at least $500 in that time frame. Then they stop by the casino and think they are all that in the poker room. Half hour later, home crying to mamma while I am just getting started.......

I talked to quite a few guys at the long beach ca port area before I got off otr deal that did pretty much what you were talking about op and made a little more than what youre looking for, short miles but long days, not much in the way of expenses because of the short hauls like 20 30 miles but hours waitng to unload, only thing is im not sure of what they said they were making was just talk....

On the being off fri, sat, sun. Just like they were saying, you might have to be flexible on that request. If your going to put money in a truck and trailer. Burn the roads up and make some money. Then figure out what your days off will be.
Good example, a neighbor of mine was just out on the road for the past 3 months. He just got back home last Thursday. Now he will be off for about the next 2 to 3 weeks. This past summer. He took off two months. After spending a long time out on the road.
Just think about it, if your going to do something and put a lot of money into it. Get the most production out of it that you can. Otherwise, you will just be spinning your wheels.
Hope you are able to figure out what fits you best....God Bless!!

Hell I work 5 days a week and it looks great on paper... then the truck breaks down.. if you are to lazy to work at least 5 days a week don't get a truck.. Most weeks you work 5 days in the truck and spend the next 2 fixing the truck.. Being an owner operator isn't a 4 day a week job.... It is a 7 day a week job....

I was told this a long time ago... every dime that truck makes outside of a very modest salary belongs to the truck.. and it may not come looking for its money today or tomorrow but it will when you least expect or can afford it..

Go get the truck run it a month and come back on here..

You had better stay where you are..

    Moving Forward Thanks this.
