We don't get detention pay until 6 HOURS after the scheduled time......soooooooo......if the scheduled time is 0800-1300, and we show up at 0730, detention pay (all $50 of it) does not kick in until 2000. By that time, you've ruined your day, fell out of your next loads ('cause you can't make them anymore), lost your job, and are going to jail for the rest of your life for murdering in receiving manager. It's just a bad deal all the way around.
I don't mind waiting if they're legitimately busy or if I show up well before my scheduled time (which I almost always do). I just hate it if it looks like they're just assing around waiting to go on break or end their day.

We should remember chopper is a new company driver.

Why does it matter that chopper is a new company driver? Unpaid detention has been a major problem in trucking for my entire 30 years.
I have read this whole thread from the beginning and for the life of me,the only difference I see is maybe chopper not directly responsible for his truck maintenance. The only benefit I can see for these L/P deals is the lack of conventional financing which would be much cheaper.JMHO

The reason I am following this thread, is because DFOs first one was amazing. Not only because of him, but because if everybody else that replies as well. Plus I am considering the IC Choice at some point. Thanks for backing me up!

And I know that if I have an appt window and show up towards the beginning of it and have to wait, that's KINDA on me. It sucks to have to wait for hours, but I'm still going to try to get detention regardless.

It matters because some of the responses to his posts are related to o/o which for now don't serve him any purpose. THAT's why. All in the interest of being helpful. We , of sni, understand first hand what he is going through having been there done that. Of your 29 years , how many were/ are of those were driven as company/ o/o for sni?

On my dedicated account we get detention pay starting after 2 hours, and every hour after that.
I thought it was the same for OTR drivers too?

It's something like that for company OTR guys as well. This forum is mostly about Independent Contractors.....ours starts after 6 (although, presumably, the company is still collecting after 2......)

How many times have you had a shipper/receiver ask you,"Are you a company driver or O/O?"

Detention by shippers/receivers is totally blind to who owns the truck. They could care less.
