I'm 21 years old. I know that most good companies will only hire 23 year old people & older due to insurance problems. So I'll be waiting 2 more years and make my work history look better than what it is as of now, but my question is for you drivers out there that know much more. Has any companies that offer free training(with contract ofcourse) have closed/cancelled their training programs? Meaning that they no longer train people for free and offer them jobs after getting their cdl. because getting a cdl by yourself is pricey. I really don't care if they cut my check in half for my first year, I'll be leaving in the truck most of the time anyways, I have no family of my own except my mother which I'll be paying her rent and stuff but I'm guessing my pay will be enough for all that. That's why I don't care paying a % of my check for my first year. But will any companies be canceling those type of programs in the future or that's something you guys never see it happening? I read somewhere that Schneider doesn't do that anymore that's why I'm asking. I'm looking forward to go for Central refrigerated here in Fontana Ca since it's only 50 miles away from me. But I'm just hoping they never cancel their trainee programs.

That's true, but has any companies brought that idea up? Have you heard anyone talk about it at all? I mean this has to take time to do, they just won't cancel all those programs from one day to the other. It has to take time to cancel all that, that's my guess. So if they haven't brought anything like that up lately, they won't do anything like that in a year or more. I hope they don't though.

Have you looked into CDL training courses at your local community college. Many have federal retraining funds available and grants to offset a students cost.
Then you will have your CDL in hand, bought and paid for, when you turn 23 and have a wider choice to look into for a job.

An important thing to understand. Is there is no "Free" CDL class or school.... what they mean by free is that they wont charge you anything up front... they pay you a reduced training wage because the cost of the CDL class is being deducted.... if you do not finish you contracted time with the company they will charge you for the balance left to pay for the class along with an extremely high interest.

If I were you Iwould start putting away money and saving up to pay for your CDL school... most schools offer a discount if yoj pay in full up front.. it wass $500 with the school I went to...

The companies that offer schooling make a lot of money off that. It is unlikely they will change their business model
