Another tip is to just order your origin state permit as the worst case scenario, then order the rest once you're loaded. This is a good way to not pay extra on heavy loads as you can scale it after pick up.

yea , weight permits are expensive and although it hasnt happened to me yet, Im really scared to order them , not get loaded and loose permit money.

I was in a meeting with Arizona DOT last week, this question came up. According to the ADOT Enforcement & Compliance Captain, they will be allowing trip and fuel permits to be carried on smartphones/laptops, but not oversize. It will be at least a year because there is no direct interface between os/ow and the laptop in the enforcement cars. I asked why DOT thinks a person can fake a permit online but not have the ability to print it. I asked lots of those kinds of questions, I may not be invited back.

What he said. Also a consideration is whether or not the state will allow you to revise a permit or if they make you order a completely new one. Regardless, I almost always order off the rate confirmation......key is to make sure they put the dims on there. Often brokers won't do that because they have been burned before. As in the case with excavators for example...they will put the model but they don't know how wide the pads are so you are on the hook.

I cant count the times the dims are off from what the confirmation states. But all valid points . Thx

Really! I've only been doing OD for 15+yrs...I gave up trying to keep track of the number of times it has happened.

It's happenned to me a few times. Still we order permits as soon as loaded, TX permit is acquired before getting to shipper though.

For me its a norm. Rare that I get good dims from broker.
Thx to all for ideas & answers.
