A company out of Orange Park FL called Sav-A-Stop. Or as we called slave a stop. It was 1977 and I left after a couple of years because I got transferred in the NAVY. In the NAVY we only worked 4 days a week so every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday I ran team throughout 7 southern states. I was guaranteed to be back at work Monday morning and one time I did break down and they did get me back. The tractors were leased from Ryder so all we did was go to the nearest shop and they fixed us up. The pay was low, 12¢ a mile but that was 2 cents more than the full time drivers because I had no benefits (didn't need them).

The company I really worked for was a service that provided drivers to different accounts. It was called Progressive Driver Services or PDS and when I left Sav-A-Stop they wanted to transfer me to a CA account but I had to tell them it would be very hard to drive and be stationed on an aircraft carrier. There were jobs out there for military drivers but you've got to look really hard.
