Put said amount of oil in run engine shut it off . And let oil drain down and pull stick out. Where ever oil is on the stick is your new full mark. You just scribe a new mark....

to the op... If they did the rebuilt kit they should of caught that. And I'd call bs ! If someone else did the kit your kinda stuck.... At least for a month.

P.S. They could have looked up your serial# and got a new dip stick and then you would know for sure. If the 2 didn't match.

Holt cat in Fort Worth did the overhaul. I agree it was a BS answer. Ill keep post updated with the results. Ill know within a week if any changes occur. My driver is very good at keeping a eye on things.

They all need a dipstick calibration from factory. It's surprising how many never get done. All to do with the angle that they sit in the truck. I've been hot on all the ones I look after, but never checked the difference in atmospheric pressure or anything else to do with ECM controls of fuel and air. Let alone fuel usage. Not saying it won't effect it but I think they are grasping at straws. But 2 gals approx 8l is a lot if extra oil??
You should be able to see where they have changed the mark on the dipstick and compare with what your use to.

If a Cat certified dealership tells you they do not know the proper dip-stick calibrations they are a lousy shop and have not done the training required to be certified.
They were in the computer, The page that shows all the parameters at the very bottom, BINGO. it shows the oil pan level.
That is basic training at every Cat course, they also tell you the engine needs a set done at the time of the first oil change. when the dipstick calibration is tested, many Cats came with the wrong stick and took 53 liters.
    Just a thought!

Nothing to do with breaking in rings lined up etc etc... The top ring is out of spec... What's the part no of the cyl pack installed?

Just overhauled my c15 in dec,2013. Very bad blow by from day 1. After 5000 mile oil change started using oil 1 gal every 1200 miles. Dealer did not want tear into it until 30000 miles to see if rings would seat. Made it to 18000 miles lost #3 & #1 cylinders to heavy scoring of liners. I had dealer put in marine cam at overhaul ECM was reprogrammed to 600 in October 2013 and up until overhaul no issues. I will find out tomorrow if I have to pay for another overhaul. I realize I put in a non-authorized programming and a non-vocational cam but my fuel mileage was up 1/2 mpg and pyrometers never got over 1000. I am just sick thinking that cat may walk away.
Any Cat reps out there with any ideas??

Trigg don't tell them about the mods you put on it cause they probably will sneak out of the warranty. They tried it before with me on less issues that was cat mistakes.

Just found out on Monday that Cat walked away leaving the repair overhaul in my lap. Dealer is going to help out on labor end but 6 new cylinder packs, cam, reprogram is going to be in the area of $8000. I looked at pistons and it looks to me like a lubrication falure, but what do I know. I am just a dump truck driver!!!
