Hey guy, I currently work as a ball dropper and love my job and hours, but I also read through very post on here and asked questions that were relevant before coming to the patch 2 years ago...
please try reading a bit if not every page on this forum, you get a lot out of it, f you have questions then I am sure some of the great folks on here will jump in and answer questions.

I just wanted to clear up the time to apply for jobs in oil patch and when not to apply. My best guess is that late March to early June is the bad time to look for a job because spring breakup makes travelling to and from the lease difficult to say the least.

Does any work get done or does everything shut down? Is that a rule of thumb or is each job different?

Looking at coming west in late April and early May. Am I choosing the worst time to come west?

I’m 66 years old with a Class 1 Class 2 (school bus) and Class 3 licenses air brakes and no experience except semi school training

Lots of motor coach jobs transporting workers. Quickest way in I would think.

I would agree with bus driving.

66 yr's old, zero experience and oilfield trucking doesn't often add up... Just sayin

I just went back and read the first few pages again. This thread has been going on as long as i've had my Class 1 now. Actually, BEFORE.

That's just basic wage. Add in job bonus, OT, training, experience, benefits, maybe a rotation opportunity. Not bad for a green hand. I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand. Ask questions. Don't assume.
