My husband is going to orientation at prime next week. He has sleep apnea and a cpap. Will they make him do another sleep study or can he just bring his machine? Thanks!!

Are you serious or sarcastic? I have to take a sleep study soon. I don't think I have sleep apnea, but you never know... I really wish Prime would let you go off the reservation for a sleep study, I find it hard to believe that Rob Low would set up his own sleep lab for it to bleed money. If nothing else, the beds at Campus inn aren't exactly ideal for a good nights sleep.

Absolutely serious. I averaged 93 events an hour. Normal is 5 or less. I stopped breathing 43 seconds a minute, never reaching deep (REM) sleep. It's a new world for me and I love it.

believe what you want. I've been helped by my machine.

Ive be had a few "large" trainees pass that test... And a few skinny trainees who exhibited symptoms that should have taken the test.

It's amazing to discover just how poorly we were sleeping. My whole outlook & attitude have changed. I am still amazed.

I have been on my machine for 1.5 years now. Not a driver yet but keep up with Prime as that is where I will go if my job goes away.

1.5 years ago when the layoff looked imminent, I decided to use my good insurance to have a sleep study done here at home. I did not have any of the classic symptoms such as snoring and being tired during the day, but since I am a large person and having family members with it, knew I would be flagged should I have shown up for orientation.

As it turns out, I had a fairly severe case of sleep apnea and my O2 level was dropping into the low 60% range. I do "feel" better, but as I did not have the symptoms, nothing really was noticed. I do know that my health is better for it and maybe I am not killing as many brain cells throughout the night.

My O2 level was 73%.....The doc told me most emphysema patients are in the 90-92%. Holy mackerel! As for symptoms, while heavy snoring & the stopping of breathing are classic, they're not the only things to look for. That's why they wire you up for the study....if you're not in REM, that's sleep apnea. 40 minutes in to my study, they came in, woke me up, and said "we need to put a mask on you right now". I slept for only 3 hours with the mask, but the test revealed those hours were deep, REM sleep. The whole day I feel amazing. Better than I can ever remember and that's with only 3 hours of real sleep!

That is the other thing, I would dream profusely. My sleep Doc was amazed that I did not really have any symptoms, I was just getting checked on the off chance that my 18 year desk job went away. I use the CPAP every night but don't really seem to sleep better but the second sleep study showed a marked improvement.

My brother has had his CPAP for 20 or so years, he was unable to drive more than a few miles before nodding off. I drive 65 miles each way to work at 4:30am and never was tired.

I procured my wife's cpap because she said I snored loud enough to wake the dead and stopped breathing at night. She got the roto-rooter surgery and doesn't need it anymore. I don't really notice a difference, but she says I don't snore or stop breathing anymore. I'll be bringing it with me. I'm sure they'll kick me into a sleep study and then if they say I need one, I'll have it. Yep, it's one that records to an SD card so it keeps logs.
