I have to agree here. You left tooo much room on the right to allow a car to get in there.

How much experience did you have prior to this?

That doesnt matter. Your father left too much room to allow the car to get by.

OH i see he is supposed to run over the curb then! Because where he was you can stay in the lane where you are supposed to be and make the turn or you can hug the corner more and run over the curb and posibly take out the village signs. Yeah i guess your right that is what should of happened!

Your setting yourself up for problems leaving room to pass on the right. Remember that no one likes to be behind a big truck.

I know this, but it is illegal to be farther to the right than what he was. So what are you supposed to do? You can hug the right, run over the curb, posibly take out the village sign, posibly get a ticket for just being over to the right. Or you can sit in the lane of traffic that is there and make your right hand turn. I have made the same turn many times. I have had a couple of cars come up on my right there and have let them go because i noticed them. But he didn't at that time. So you tell me, what are you supposed to do at the intersection then?

There is one problem with that. Most times you do good to get directions that even get you to the place you are going. Now you are really going to stump them. Hello; I am coming in with a big truck. Can I make all the turns that you mentioned or do I need to re-route? Wouldn't happen to be any low bridges, sharp right hand turns or stupid people driving in your neighborhood would there? Is there any way that I can tell you where I am and you come get this stuff off my trailer???:biggrin_2559:

You know -- you're right, Tarps. Just a few weeks ago a driver called in asking for directions. He got great directions -- for a car -- from one of the women in our office. Trouble was, he had 48' behind him. I'm surprised he managed to get to us via that route (the last turn must've been a killer), but he did -- only to get into the wrong driveway and needing to back out. He was pretty fired up by that time... and I happened to be walking between buildings when I saw him pull in.

After a bit of, shall we say "venting", he told me what he needed to do to get out of there and sent me out to stop traffic to allow him the time and space.

So... if a driver needs to call for directions, it probably wouldn't hurt to ask those questions. :biggrin_25523:

Or when asking for directions explain as nicely as you can that you are in a BIG truck, or talk to shipping and receiving; they end up giving out directions every day, and tend to have decent ones.
    [Notice I said TEND...]
