Runningman0661, It sounds like a great gig. I drove about 5 yrs. during the 1980's after leaving the Corps. But when CDL's became mandatory, I was a thick-headed young kid and got out of the industry.
Now, 25 yrs. later I'm stating all over again. I have been accepted by several companies for OTR after school. I've been looking at Schneider for solo OTR, and for team OTR I'm trying to decide between Covenant Transport and CRST. Any advice?

Swamprat55, I know I'm happy on the Intermodal side, but we're treated a little different then the OTR guys. I'm treated fairly here and as long as I do my job I'm left alone. It sucks having to start out again I know. Good luck!
Swamprat55 Thanks this. -
If anyone is interested they are hiring a regional intermodal driver out of Charlotte along with a local intermodal position. I'm pretty sure the local position will be starting on nights.

Got to my last pickup for the day, it was supposed to be loaded on a dropped trailer. When I checked in just as the shipping dept. was leaving for the day she informed me that the dropped trailer just arrived 30 minutes prior to my arrival and that it wont be loaded until the morning. Really no big deal, I only had an hour left on my 14. I called dispatch and asked if I could bounce 30 miles to the closest truck stop so I could grab some grub and a shower. They authorized the move and just asked I be back at the customer by 0700.

Well it's been a pretty ho hum mundane week. I delivered to Dollar General in S Boston this morning, I dropped my empty and was preassigned a drop and hook 23 miles away. Only one problem, no empties at DG, the closest empty is 175 miles away. So I drive 350 miles round trip to get a freaking empty so I can pick up my preassigned load. Oh well, miles are miles I suppose. We are so short of empties in the Charlotte market, it's ridiculous. The last few weeks they have brought in an average of 20 empties a week, but 15 of those are allocated for a certain shipper. Be safe!

Does Schneider run intermodal in cape canaveral, fl in the port area?
-
I have been offered intermodal in socal. I have been told its $36 a load, or $41 with a bonus if Im on time) and .25 a mile. I was told its 4-6 loads a day and 1500 to 1800 miles a week. So assuming I do the least and do 4 loads a day and only 1500 miles a week without the bonus thats still about $1100 a week...does that sound realistic?
-
That's very realistic, when I started they gave me low numbers that I might make. I have blown those numbers out if the water.duckdiver Thanks this.

It's been a pretty productive couple of weeks. Last week I ran about 2100 miles and this week I ran 2546 miles in five days. My norm is around 1900 to 2000 miles. We make a good portion of our money from accesorial pay. This week alone I made $310 in accesorial pay. In the last two weeks I have spent Monday and Tuesday nights in the truck and the rest of the week I have gotten home for my 10 hr break. Sometimes I pull in the OC with less then 5 minutes on my 14. This past Tuesday I was going to be about 3 minutes short of making it back to the OC, so I just shut it down at the Wilco/Hess at the 71 on I85. Well I'm about to sit down and do our taxes, fun times.
