2010 Freightliner Cascadia for 62k, good deal?

    That's a good truck for a fair price. Many fleets trade close to 500,000 miles because the highest cost miles on average are between 500 and 750,000. Remember - number one expense is fuel. These are good fuel mileage specs. I'd insist on a set of Bridgestone 710s in place of the caps even if I had to pay the difference. 455 and 475 have the same 1650 torque rating so all you're doing is revving more rpm to use the extra 20hp = reduced fuel mileage. Leave it at 455 to discourage dear old Dad from revving her up to use the extra power. I'm with you on 9 or 10 speed vs 13. I hate a 9 or 10.13 is so much more drivable. Use the apu till it craps out then use the generator to power roof mounted ac and heat. Good luck!

    Ok what company are you doing this thru or is it dealership deal?

    2nd you can turn it into a 13. Speed yourself, the nob part costs like 50 bucks new and I had mine put in for about $165.00. All they have to do is. Change out the nob and add an extra air line.

    I think you would be able to find a better deal out there, things to consider are you planning or wanting to run California? If not you would be better off getting a truck without def in it as companies are not paying for def and your fsc will go straight to def.

    i got my 2007 freight in dec 2011 with 445k miles on it, all said and done will pay 60k for truck and that is including 17% interest (I know bad credit sucks)

    Looks like you can pick up a 2011 , which has DEF on it for the same price range. The current emissions package helped with the EGR and DPF head aches. Find one and have the multi torque turned on. Gives you 200 more ftlb of torque . Main key to DEF is keeping crystals at bay! Keep the tank full, and wipe any crystals off the pump before filling your tank. Most issues I have heard are from the crystals stopping up the screen in the tank or stopping up the lines. When DEF dries it forms a white crystal . You have seen it around the pumps. Keeping the tank full , keeps the fluid splashing the top and sides most all the time , so it never dries . The tank gets low it will splash up once or twice a day , then dry(forming those crystals) then next fill up you wash them off , and into the screen.

    Most FLEETS turn over their fleets @ 500K as they do not own them but fleet lease them from the manufacturers.

    Not the greatest deal going but OP sounds like he has his mind made up on this particular truck so GOOD LUCK with it .

    I guess the price is high as people are still wanting to avoid SCR, and I'd stay away from a SCR truck until 2012 at least.

    Thanks for all the replies! I really appreciate everyone's input.

    I decided last week not to get that truck. The loss was only the $500 deposit. I picked up a 2012 Cascadia for the same price! Not from the dealer of course, but from a fleet. I personally drove that truck bobtail to TX from the east coast. Now, I just have to wait on my finance company to give me the title receipt paper work so I can get my plates switched over to this truck.

    I hope you have better luck with the 2012 Cascadia than I did. I was a company driver and the first truck they gave me was a 2006 FL with 800,500 miles on it. After it broke down so much I told them I wasn't going to drive another mile until they fixed ALL of the problems I found. After they fixed everything the truck ran perfectly. But then they had me turn the truck in and gave me a brand new 2012 because they were going to sell the old one I had. The 2012 Cascadia had more problems then the old truck did. I think because of all the breakdowns I only made 27,000 last year. Maybe the owner operator trucks are configured differently?
