I am in the logging industry. First of all we are still running up and down the road for nothing. We have had the timber co. stealing our fuel surcharge for sometime now. We are not getting payed the miles we run. Those are some of the major reasons for our protest and shutdown. We have reached the point where we can no longer haul up and down the road for nothing. For those of you that look down upon the logging industry, you better remember where paper comes from and the lumber to build your house. If you think about it, we provide ya'll a roof over your head and a way to wipe your ##*. Imagine going back to using leaves! The container haulers around here are facing some of the same problems we are. There are alot of other drivers around the country that support us. Although the loggers and log haulers are leading this, our movement isn't just for the log haulers, it is for the consumers. I understand that alot of you say that as long as the pay goes up you don't care what fuel goes up to. If these companies are being charged hirer prices for shipping their products, that will indeed be passed along to the consumer. So, make more money to live, spend more money to live. The whole time the big companies and the oil companies are still getting richer. Why can't they take a little bit of that profit margin they get to accompensate the cost of freight? Why does it always have to be passed down to the consumer?

We are in Northern Indiana, and I have been asking for support over the radio the last couple of days. Most of the drivers here say this is a waste of time, but I will be parking our equipment in support of all of you now. April 1st seems to be the start date and we will not be moving. If you know of other drivers in our area let them know we are here and supporting the shut down. We need to know what we should do to help. Do we need to set up an area or find a truck stop that we can all go to. Looking for some ideas to make our presence known without violence. If one week off will cause you to lose it all, you were fighting a loosing battle anyway. Just so you know we have turned down all our loads in the last couple of days due to poor pay.

BP announced not to long ago about the record profits it has been making. Here in Northern Indiana the BP plant has some real dirt flying about they can't seem to make there oil refinery environmentally safe. With all the record profits, and failing to repair - replace the safety equipment or just plain upgrade is not in the budget. Now they are seeking extensions and delaying court action to allow the use of pollution tax credits to allow them to continue without making changes, and you guessed it keep making the record profits.

I agree. When prices go up, its the little guy that suffers. Did you hear about what Washington Mutual is doing. Their execs were paid bonuses based on mortgages, excuse the spelling. dont have time to check. Now that the housing market is down, they changed the targets for the boneses so now they get boneses for a different category. Long story, dont have time to get more specific, but it falls in line with what you are saying.
When times get tough, the truckers take it in the end along with all the other little guys. Bear Sterns??? What does that tell you.
I personally would like to boycott Oregon and Wahshington freight and the brokers. It is essentially the same as a strike but then maybe the shippers would start asking why are you not moving my freight.
Ask the broker. Of course they will lie about it.
Point is we need somehow to get the word out to the general public about all the nonsense that is going on out here. I do think we could get the public on our side if we could expose what the brokers are doing for example.
I would like to wright more but I am out of time and need to look for a load.
Kind regards,

That is my truck in the profile pic. I am a log hauler not a logger!

Just for the record...this whole thing is having a flood down(as opposed to trickle-down ) effect. My boss cannot afford to keep up with the big truckstops, TA,Pilot,Flying J...We are a small indie...and fuel costs are killing us just as surely as they are killing you...It costs us 80G to fill our tanks and we aren't making more than $.01 or $.02 per...Drivers are getting fuel 50 gals. at a time...and many stops are experiencing drive-offs....Desperate times call for desperate measures...I think a shutdown will have a domino effect. Perhaps GW will open the oil reserves...Why doesn't anyone talk about that....Summer fuel change over is coming up and they are predicting .75 gal increase by summer!!!
If you wait around twiddling your thumbs...you might as well file for bankruptcy now...

Attention Truck Drivers of North America
we have to act in solidarity, against extremely high fuel prices,
REMEMBER,"UNITED WE STAND"
Without us purchasing their fuel, their fuel will be worthless!!!
Time to strike!! is now!!
Since fuel price last year was $2.30 a gallon! we have complained, andhave been in the media. At no avail, the government won't do anything, the brokers, won't do anythingThe fuel has exceeded $4.00 a gollon! some Owner Operators have gonebankrupt, how long can we last! Maybe today, tomorrow,or next month! it doesn't matter if you are an owner ope or a comp driver,it still affects what you finally take home.
solidarity will see us through,again.
UNITED WE STAND,DIVIDED WE FALL!"
no one is going to do anything for us
the stores have raised their price!
why no us! some say,i can afford to strike!!
we can'tafford not to strike!!!
it is the only thing left for us to do,the government, brokers, company owners will have pay
