Hi guys, my name is Sylvain, I am 22 years old and am actually in my second week at Roadmaster in Columbus, Ohio.

They have recruiters coming at school pretty often but I feel like none of them talk about home daily jobs. I don't want to go over the road for some personal reason and would like to be home every day or if I really have to, be home every other day. (I will be able to go on training as far as I have to go)

I do know that the money won't be as big as the over the road jobs but I am cool with that, I'd rather do a bit more of loading/unloading!

I do have my tanker endorsement and I will try to get my Haz-Mat ASAP.

I am looking for jobs around Columbus or Akron area.

    Thanks in advance guys!

Hit the phone book and talk to every local freight company in your target area until someone hires you. Good luck to you.

be careful with Conway. there are 2 sides to that company. Conway truck load. and con way freight. apply to Conway freight only. and do it in person. and from what I have heard. Conway freight is hard to get on with. Conway truck load is the otr side of Conway.

you might try the local lumber yards or trash collection companies. or maybe grocery warehouse. or you might go and talk to a concrete company about driving a mixer truck. they won't pay back the student loan for the school. neither will over the road trucking companies. so you can look forward to paying that off on your own.

recruiters will say anything to get you to come to work for the company they are selling for. so a good rule of thumb to keep in mind when listening to a recruiter talk. is 90% of what they are saying is a big lie. think of a recruiter like a used car sale man and you will be fine.

that being said. you might have to do over the road for at least 3 years. or until you get the much need "experience" you lack to get a local job. over the road isn't that bad with the right group of people you are working with and for. the biggest thing that people don't like about over the road. is the time they have to spend away for home and the low income. any ways good luck in your new career. may it be long and prosperest for you.

Excellent advise, I do say so! I agree with you more than 100 % on the recruiter part. The only thing I will add to this is utilize all of the resources that are on this forum (ie. DRIVERS). Talk to them. Ask them if what the recruiters are saying, is actually factual. Or, you can simply just get most of your information from drivers, talk only to a recruiter for the vital information they need, and use the driver as a referral on the application because most times, they can benefit from bonus, as compared to a recruiter.

That's my $0.02, take it for what it's worth.

    Best of luck to you!
