In my earlier post I mentioned some trucks that were purchased by UPS Freight back in 2009 and put in service in 2010 for a dedicated Honda Motors account. Some of these trucks, about 6 of them for 3 locations (Davenport, IA, Alpharetta, GA & Irving, TX), had a hybrid diesel-electric motor. These trucks performed so badly (poor fuel mileage, engine breakdowns) that by 2011, all of these trucks were converted back to a regular diesel motor. At the time, Peterbilt touted these trucks, but they were proven unreliable failures! Here is an article from a press release Honda Motors made at the time.

It seems like the electric transmission system would be heavier, although with a little R & D, it could be made better over time...
As far as the wally world concept truck goes, I think some people have too much time on their hands! -
