Trucking companies and their promises are not even good enough for the used toilet paper it was written on.

Swamprat55, I also felt the same way in regard to no family ties, but reality is that home time is not just about family, it's about friends, hygiene and not sitting in that seat. If you truly want to stay away from home (Which some people want to do) I would recommend an OTR Co. that will run you coast to coast or the mid-west. Mileage pay for the east coast should be higher, but some Co. recognize this and others do not. Many will disagree with me and say that you don't have to run coast to coast or non regional to make your miles, but when your sitting on 95 and it looks more like a walmart parking lot, you will know what I mean. There are exceptions to everything that I am saying, and there are drivers that run regional or east coast and get plenty of miles, but this depends on their situation. I see you are from RI. I have been there twice and all I can say is that's all "slow rollin". Remember the old saying, "if the wheels aren't turning you aren't earning". Good luck to you and I hope all turns out well.

Another thing that I forgot to mention is that most local and smaller Co. have equipment that will probably not pass a thorough DOT inspection. I took a road test for a local Co. and it was extremely hard for me to concentrate on driving while I was trying not to puke all over the dash. The odor in this truck was kicking like Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris rolled into one. It smelled like body odor and coyote butt mixed together. I know this truck would not have passed DOT, because the cat walk was gone and the steer tires looked like racing slicks. When I was leaving I noticed a brand new BMW parked in the owners reserved spot. Let's buy a new high end car, but forget about tires for the truck that paid for the car!

I completely understand where you're coming from. During the late 1980's I ran Maine to Florida. and local p&d RI, S.E. MA, CT, and also nightly turns RI to NJ. I'm coming back to run 48 states to get OFF the east coast.

I totally agree with you. I'm attempting to get with Schneider National, or Conway Truckload.

How about DG accounts & Home Depot accounts, are they pretty stable? The SNI recruiter told me they had plenty of freight on the Home depot account and i would be home every weekend.
