Kinda true. If your at the front or in front of the truck has you come down the on ramp then yes speed up a bit and get going. It works smooth has pie. But if your halfway or at the back of the truck then keep the speed down and slip in behind them its easy enough to change lanes after. I cant count the number of cars I have seen end up driving on the shoulder of the road. Simply because they couldn't get from the back of the truck to in front of it and in the lane before the merge lane ended. Or got up there just to find another car changing into the right hand lane.

What not to do when merging and seeing a truck there. Dont start weaving all over the merge lane, flip on your turn signal, Slow down, and then merge in, infront of a rig that is now moving faster then what you are. That is unless you really really really want an 80,000lb enima.

That's a good flash. Nothing's really that black and white, though.

You actually guessed that one correctly,,We do not have to change lanes and slow for people getting on and off if we stay over a lane and just ride and glide.

Well I know that there are some states out there that the law read if there are three or more lanes you belong in the middle lanes unless passing or merging on and off the interstate. I also realize after traveling through a lot of these states that the local and state law enforcement don't enforce these laws. What it actually comes down to is that all people on the road need to have a respect for one another. There are a lot of drivers both truck drivers as well as people driving their four wheelers that I would love to yank out of their vehicle everyday.

For safety reasons...By running the middle lane in congested areas, the truck doesnt have to always switch lanes to get out of the way of traffic merging onto the freeway...it's just safer in congested areas...

I try to stay in the slow lane and out of the middle lane as much as possible, that way I can keep the idiots on only one side of my truck. I figure I always have at least one out in the slow lane ( it's the ditch and it would suck to use it but it beats running over a mini van or a car full of kids)

I drive a slow truck, if I'm in the right lane, will you people in the fast trucks pass me quickly. Most times you slow down right beside me (for no reason) so I get slammed with the onramp traffic. Then I get in the middle lane and ride it and make other trucks pass me on the right. They fly by me (for some reason)

What is pitiful, though, is that the same truck driver who will stop to let in all the 4-wheelers in coming off of an entrance ramp, will not let me in coming off of the same ramp.

Also, I understand drivers driving in the middle lane during rush hour, but WTF is up with the slow trucks in the middle lane late at night when there is no merging traffic or jams. What's your excuse now?

Oh yeah, and BTW, I WILL PASS YOU ON THE RIGHT, and then cut in front of you and slam on my brakes and make you bow up like a cobra if I catch you riding in the middle lane during non-peak hours.

But, having said that, I wish all the truck drivers would sign a pact to strictly run nothing but the middle lane until such time as the left lane(s) are opened back up to those of us paying the FHUT(axes) and diesel taxes that build these roads. That is one of my pet peeves.

Rock Hill, SC is a perfect example. It is 4 lanes each way on I-77. The trucks are restricted to the right 2 lanes. NO ONE, AND I MEAN, NO ONE, used the left 2 lanes. The trucks have no choice, and the cars are over there ready to get off of the exits. It's totally stupid.

The proper rule, should be "slow traffic and exiting traffic keep right," and "faster traffic and thru traffic keep left." What happened to common sense. Oh yeah, common sense doesn't pour revenue into state coffers.:biggrin_25526:

I hope you're joking with this one, because supertruckers like you are the ones giving the rest of us a black eye. Many truckers with such dangerous habits eventually wind up finding themselves wrapped around a tree stuggling not to get burned up. Often they take other people with them.:biggrin_25516:
