My company has bought Kenworths model T 660 and being we have not run trucks with air bags before I would venture to say they are not too familiar with the system. Now late last year we had a driver hit a bridge with one it hit the trailer. There response was what I feel an overreaction to that problem. They lowered the air bags down as far as they would go and you can run your fingers underneath and feel the area around the bags have a crease in them. I have heard this could lead to excessive wear and tear on the air bags. I also heard that it takes weight off the front axles and can cause other problems. I need to find info on this and what are the other problems and would like to know what you may know on this.
air suspension

Rookies or idiots?
Lowering the rear bags does all kinds of bad things...
Changes the whole driveline angle, meaning more u joints and vibrations.
Reduces the lifespan of the bags greatly.
Hit a bump, and it can not do it's job.
Could easily bottom out a shock, and ruin that too.
So on and so forth.
They need to not hit bridges, not try to make a truck to fit under a low overpass!
MartinCetane+ and walleyejones Thank this. -
What company is this?

Everything Martin said. I would just add, if it's just to clear a tight overhead on a rare occasion, you could just dump the bags before the bridge, drive slowly across, then lift them. They do have the dump valve, don't they? Trucks with spring suspension these days, are like cars with carburetors and a choke lever you pull to get it going. Pretty rare.leftlanetruckin, Cetane+ and walleyejones Thank this.

LOL Martin yes believe me they never amaze me. Good answer and I loved the quote: They need to not hit Bridges, not try to make a truck fit under a low overpass.

LOL Martin yes some times it seems they are. Love the quote They need to not hit bridges, not try to make a truck to fit under a low underpass.

Yes Mr LowMax I agree and most of our drivers are aware of dumping the bags. It is just our shop that has overreacted to this situation. I looked up some things on the internet and with your guys post brought this up with the shop management.
