    Hey everyone,

I recently got out of CDL school and started applying to all the local trucking companies around town. All the good companies wanted experience so I decided to go flatbedding with McElroy Truck Lines. I'm leaving out March the 3rd for McElroy and I got a phone call today from Basic Energy Services and they're wanting to hire me. He said I'd be home every night and make $14.00/hr. I ain't got a clue what to do now. I had talked with my pastor and he said not to drive for a saltwater company, that I would enjoy flatbedding much more. Now I'm clueless as to what to do, I was getting pretty excited about starting with McElroy and I almost wish they hadn't called me as now I don't know what to do. Anyone got any experience driving a saltwater truck? Which one seems like a better fit? Just need a little help making a decision from more experienced truckers.

Is he or was he a trucker , or just has a hate on for the energy industry?

He used to be a trucker, part of me says just stay the course and go with mcelroy but on the other hand basic energy may not be a bad idea, I just kinda think I should go with mcelroy so I can really learn the trucking industry somewhat and save some money for a down payment on my own truck. Just don't know how much money I can save at $13.50 or $14 an hour

Yea I have a wife, if I went with mcelroy I'd get home on the weekends and from people I've talked to since I live close to the terminal, some during the week also. Now if hines trucking had called me, they're the local company I really wanted, if they would've called, I'd be all over that, just don't know if I'd like saltwater trucking or not

McElroy is still providing free health insurance. That is a good decision breaker in my opinion!

I mean yes I would love a local job but not at the cost of not making any money and hating my job, but I don't know I may love saltwater trucking, just trying to make the best decision

I'm thinking I'm gonna go ahead with Mcelroy, I just don't feel right about Basic Energy.

I know what I would do, but I'm not in your shoes.
I'd go with the tanker job. It's unlikely your pay with McElroy will average $14 hr. being off weekends. Get some tanker experience with Basic Energy, then slide over to SVTN in a few months. In fact, I would start out with SVTN instead of McElroy. I'm not knocking McElroy, it's probably a good company, but there's thousands $$$$$ more a year in tanker.
